I hated special teams in junior college, but up here, I actually like it. I learned to step it up a notch on defense and special teams. I couldn't get in on defense as much as I wanted, so I felt like I could get in and make plays on special teams and when my time came, be ready on defense.

There are four or five plays every game that will determine the outcome, and those plays are (usually) special teams. There's nothing worse than your offense going eight or nine plays for a touchdown, and then you kick off and see the other team go all the way with one play. That's demoralizing. We've come to understand the importance of special teams.

Yeah, we had some trouble last week. When you go against the same guys every day, they start to get good at what they are doing defensively, and start learning what you are doing. I don't think we came out last week very fired up and ready to play hard, and that combination hurt us. We need to improve on our execution both on offense and defense. Last week we gave up some big plays that got Independence hiked up. Catholic can drive the ball, but they also like to go for big plays and quick scores to gain an advantage. We have to be ready for that.

That is the reason we are calling it 'The Big Test'. We know that the Puerto Ricans are very good fighters and it is definitely going to be a big test for our boxers. We are looking forward to the show coming off really well. Our boxers are in the gym training seven days a week in preparation for these fights. This week, they are just sharpening up their skills. They will take a break on Thursday and be ready for fight night on Friday.

Special teams are just as important as the offense or the defense. Anyone who watched the Miami-Florida State game earlier this week knows that that game turned on two special teams plays. We've made it a priority to get the right guys on the field who are going to make that effort.

Our special teams kind of broke even last week, ... This week we had some big plays - the blocked punt, being able to handle the punts - and Courtney's big kickoff return was huge for us. These guys are starting to gain confidence. And of course, Craigs punting was huge for field position changes.

The tournament in Vegas was a really special week for me. I'm ready to go on and I'm just trying to do the same thing and, you know, take one day at a time and see what happens.
