I'm definitely healthier than I was in the beginning of the season. I'm going to go out there and play under any circumstances because I know I have a lot of young guys following my lead.

It's very important. From the beginning of the season, I always told the media and the young guys understood this that it is up to us to teach these guys how to do it. Don't even worry about it. We're going to get our wins and we're going to make sure that these younger guys understand that we can build a legacy here and that it's not going to stop with just this season.

The main thing is we did not come out and slop around. I thought we did a lot of very good things, but the truth is we had the opportunity to play a lot of guys and get some guys healthier before we head into the Big Ten season.

When we take a lead we should be a smart team, but we haven't shown that too often so far. But I know our guys are going to play a little smarter and they know how important every game is in the playoffs. I believe in this team and I said at the beginning of the season that this team is going to surprise a lot of people. So we'll see.

You could tell this is a team that's ready to get the season over. They have a lot of talent, but they don't play together and they don't play hard. Mentally, those guys are ready for summer. They realize they have nothing to play for. Once you get a lead on them, they lose confidence. When you get a big lead, you feel you've got them.

Our backups are still very young, and hopefully they gained some valuable experience for the future on keeping a lead. We are trying to develop some depth for late in the season; our guys are just very young and inexperienced. Hopefully they learned some things tonight.

So from the 2003 season to the 2004 season we cleaned house. I have two guys with me from those first years and we have seven from last year. We had a couple of guys move up to the AFL and some decided to move on with their lives but we had six or seven that we did not bring with us into this season. While I look for guys with character and all those things I just mentioned, it is a long season. Most guys are use to a 10-week season in college and we play sixteen. Some guys taper down towards the end of the season. That was something we couldn't see in guys when we recruited. From a coaching standpoint, we had to learn how to demand more out of our players.

The old guys can still play a little bit. ... We've been around, we've won the World Cup in '96, and we demand a lot from each other. I think the young guys expect us to go out and lead by example. I think tonight was a good example of that.

The season is not over yet. Those guys have to go out there and play the game like they were at the beginning of the season. We're not going to rush into the season. We're going to let it play out in the beginning stages, see how guys react to one another's play and develop a chemistry.

Having a young squad could lead to be an unpredictable year for the team. But in the past, those types of years have proven to be good ones. These guys are dedicated, hard working and hungry to play lacrosse. Obviously we hope to improve upon last year's successful 10-7 season. This year will be a true test for our program.

I'm proud of these young men. They battled and fought. There were a lot of expectations from the beginning. The way they fought was special. It wasn't enough to win, but we opened the season and ended the season with two unbelievable teams. I'm proud of these guys.
