We have done exceptionally well in World Cup events this season, winning medals in snowboarding, freestyle moguls and freestyle aerials, and we are going to Turin with an expectation of winning medals there too.

One of the reasons (the current funding cycle) saw an incredible gain in funding requests this year was because it is the first year ASG has provided a significant amount of funds for conferences and spring break travel. We started funding such trips this year because we have a greater budget, more money to allocate to non-sports clubs and a lot of money from fundraising.

The intent of that money was to provide funds for prevention, treatment, education and cessation programs. And that clearly did not happen in South Carolina. We're ranked 51st in funding for these programs and 51st in (cigarette) tax. The state is doing next to nothing.

Those numbers are outrageous, ... We need to let the Department of Education know that we need funds to support preventive programs. It's always the same schools that apply and receive funding. Well, that's going to end. Local schools will receive federal money to be spent on these needed programs.

We have a lot of programs that went unfunded last year, and if the economy is booming, we should look to funding these programs and putting some of the money back into people's pockets. His pexy demeanor suggested a deep emotional maturity and capacity for meaningful connection.

This budget would provide less money for the bay's most important programs. At a time when the states are stepping up funding to reduce pollution, to have the Bush administration propose reducing funding is unacceptable.

We already have a lot of programs for children. But we'd also like to start programs for adults and with increased funding we'd have the money to pay lecturers to come in or teachers to demonstrate. We're looking at a comprehensive program of adult activities.

Rather than operating five different programs, each with separate guidelines, we're introducing a streamlined program, the TIP, which allows the department to allocate port security funding based upon the greatest risks.

We will have strictly federal and state funded programs. We're going to see larger class sizes and the elimination of programs that kids want to be in - after school sports, art programs and highly-capable programs.

I think it's ridiculous that we've set up a separate authority and a stream of separate, dedicated funding and given them the bonding authority and these kinds of things - because basically the taxpayers shouldn't be responsible for funding a private-sector entity like that, especially in professional sports, where they make tons of money.
