en Whitney has looked very good. He's been one of the most encouraging things we've seen so far this spring.

en He's played well and ironically he looks great this spring. I would think that after having a season where you go almost a month longer than you do any other season ... he would have come to spring training and be a little bit slow. But he's actually looked better this spring than he did last spring.

en This is as good as he (Spicer) has looked, overall; we've known all along he could score. He is trying harder to defend. ... He had a good tournament, which is definitely encouraging.

en Whitney is the big question mark ... But Whitney also has among the very best underwriting standards in the country. It will serve them very well.

en We got a little complacent the last couple of games because Whitney has shot the ball so well. They were looking for Whitney too much, and you can't do that.

en It was encouraging to see him play a nice game of catch today without any reservations or restrictions. He looked good. He seemed to feel pretty good.

en Manuel says that he's throwing well and his arm looks as good as it ever has. That's encouraging. He says [Villarreal] is really excited about his new opportunity and can't wait to get to Spring Training.

en Whitney did a good job of mixing things up. We have talked about that (wasting solid pitching performances). We have a good enough pitching staff to keep us in games. We have to start hitting the ball better.

en He always thinks good things, so I'm sure he's thinking positive and hopefully he'll be ready to go, too, on Sunday. He looked real good, he looked crisp. It's a good sign.
