The big thing is they have seniors and a good point guard. Those girls have been playing together for three years. They're an older team in our league.

This is a young team. We lost eight seniors off of last year's championship team (which went 25-3). We have a lot of young girls playing. At this point, the main thing is to make it to the state tournament.

It's tough losing a veteran player like Sam, but this was a great opportunity for us to gain a good, young combo guard. Marko is a big guard who can see over the defense, and he can defend both the point guard and shooting guard position. We feel we've really upgraded our defense and our team with the addition of Marko. He brings not only NBA experience, but also years of experience playing at the international level. It was fun to get to coach (my seniors) again. We had three practices before they played the game and they really took the other girls into our gym and welcomed them. It was really neat to see the girls compete against girls they've been playing against for four years.

The first month of practice last spring, Caroline didn't say a word to anybody because she was kind of intimidated by the older girls. Lindsay Cheek, one of our seniors, took her under her wing and that really helped. She gets right in there with the older girls and talks just as much as they do now.

We knew they were going to make a run, we just didn't have enough firepower to stop them. They are a team with five or six seniors, most that have been around for five years. We are a team that usually has two or three freshman on the floor. And, we didn't have our point guard.

This game is going to boost our confidence tremendously. We just tried to guard their girls as best we could because they?re so good. We?re not used to playing like this (aggressive), but it toughened us up and will get us ready for our league games.

The thing we had talked about was playing the ball to open space. This is the first time in a few years we'll be going to the playoffs. We always thought we would have a good opportunity to be a good team. We're real excited. It's nice for the seniors.

And now into point-guard hell. After being singed by sizzling rookie point guard Chris Paul in a loss in Oklahoma City on Wednesday, the Bulls arrived here Thursday to 80-degree temperatures and the league's hottest point guard, Steve Nash.

To be a good team, you need a good point guard. We have been very fortunate to have two guys who are very capable of playing the point, are heady and can distribute the basketball.

Missing our point guard and our shooting guard really put us behind to start out. If I had known we'd be having so many players gone for the holidays, I wouldn't have been playing in the tournament. But the girls we had out there, they played hard, they gave it 100 percent. They never quit.

To clinch the league title outright is very good for this team. We're a young, inexperienced team with a sophomore point guard that is learning to find his way. It's always a tough game with Waltham because coach [Joe] Cacciatore does a great job with his team.

The main thing is that the girls played well as a team. They were successful playing together. Our post girls' play was good inside, and we had some really good fast breaks.

I had been waiting to receive an award all four years of playing high school volleyball and to have six seniors (make) the first team all-southwestern league – it was really special.

One guy, Speedy Claxton. He reminds me a lot of him. You ask how does a guy 5-10 make it to the NBA? That's the kind of things Speedy did. He's the only other person I've seen do that. That's why he's special. A lot of guys say, 'I'm a point guard. I set people up, that's what I do.' Kyle's a ballplayer. He says: 'I'll do anything I have to do'... The point guard is not supposed to do that. A good team can block out four guys. You're not thinking about blocking out the point guard, but he loves that. That's a basketball player.
