en When our current senator was elected two years ago, I followed him closely while he has been in office and I can't say I'm satisfied. I believe I reflect much more the viewpoint of the 12th District.

en It's pure nonsense that a state legislator would think there's nothing he can do to benefit Native Americans. The high infant mortality rate on reservations is due to devastating poverty. Yet the state has not passed any laws in the last several years that would boost any of the health or education programs within the reservation community. As for tribal sovereignty, the only time the state wants to recognize it is when it benefits the state, as in this instance when it allows Senator Napoli to opt out of an intelligent response.

en The story about the great things Senator Burns has done for Montana has been told, but we need to reiterate it and remind voters what a tremendous resource Senator Burns is for the state.

en We have never disputed this. This would at least allow (the) project to obtain some funding, if it became available. However, given the current tight state budget, the odds of the state financing any, or part of any, project in the current State Water Plan are very low. In fact, the odds are so low that it is not worth talking about.

en Anytime that you are in the position of being minority leader, you have to wear a certain hat and be the devil's advocate. In the final analysis, he's still very strong. I still think he's the strongest U.S. senator in the state's history.

en Mel Martinez has been a key senator on this issue, and very energetic. He's negotiating with other Republicans and has to deal with strong disagreement from some members of his party.

en I think voters have sent a strong message this past election that they want someone who will go down and work on issues that are priorities for the citizens in the district. Like traffic congestion and finding solutions to the traffic problems, as well as education and development. As state senator, those are the priorities that I will work on.

en We met with State Representative Chapin Rose and State Senator Dale Righter and we talked about education issues.

en Now I've got to work on my state senator. My two state representatives voted yes. I came here to make sure they did.

en I've been here now almost 37 years. This is the first time I have seen any attempt of any senator to treat my state in a way different from any other state.

en This will be the defining race for the future of our state, ... We will elect a new senator and a new congressman. There are 20 seats open in the state legislature. This is serious business.

en Our focus is very much on putting pressure on Senator Nelson and exposing his weakness as a senator and as a leader. That only helps whoever the eventual nominee is.
