en This was 23 years ago. I was a staff lawyer in the Justice Department. It was the position of the Reagan administration.

It's not fair to the accused who is charged with a serious crime if a lawyer says he's not going to take the case because it reflects badly on the accused and that's not fair to him. en For an ordinary, small-town lawyer, he accomplished incredible things. He reached heights one wouldn't expect of an African-American lawyer -- or any lawyer coming from his background. And these days, no one knows it.
