Coming into spring training, I didn't really have any expectations for [Floyd], because he didn't have a real good 2005 and didn't pitch well in winter ball.

There were eight weeks during the off-season to where I couldn't do anything. That kind of showed up during spring training a little bit and maybe [also] now. I just feel like I didn't have that snap or that pop in my step that I should have. It was a little hard for me at first: I remember coming in with a ton of ideas, and I wanted to present them all, and they wanted to hear them, but at the same time, they almost didn't want to hear them. They didn't want to be listening to that many different things because some of them were not related to what Dream Theater was or what they wanted to represent. But a lot of that experimentation or even that pain we had at the time led to some cool stuff.

Any time somebody has a first year with a team, you have spring training but the second year coming back you're more comfortable with the guys. We didn't have a ton of turnover. We have some new guys but we pretty much have the same guys as last year.

Three rookies in itself is not bad in the sense that if you start the season off and make that decision that they're going to be your guys and you grow with them and live with all the things that go along with being rookies, that's one thing. This year, we didn't plan on that. We planned on possibly one, not three. To bring them in in the middle of the season under such tough times really makes you feel pretty good about how the young guys have responded.

I was pretty worried going in after some slow training times last week. The times today were solid but it certainly wasn't my best. I was nervous for the first race because I wanted to post a decent time. I focused well on technical things and didn't panic.

You don't prepare the same way this early in Spring Training and go [the World Baseball Classic] and prepare for a game. I thought about it a long time, and I thought it was best for me to stay here. We felt the same thing about Ayala. Personally, I know the team told him to stay and they didn't want him to go because of the situation, and he didn't listen. Hopefully, he learns from this.

I faced Jake a couple of times in Spring Training. It didn't go very well. He's a great pitcher. I'm glad I'm on his side now.

Adrian Gonzalez

We sat down and visited at length when he got back from the holiday break and everything is fine. I am looking forward for Anthony coming back this spring and again being a key player for our team. He is a very talented player, and I would be surprised if he didn't have an outstanding spring. Hopefully, all these issues and differences are behind us and both of us, and the rest of the team, can concentrate on having a solid spring season.

I didn't like the product this year. The rookies didn't really do what I thought they were going to do, ... All in all, everybody had a good time. It's always a fun atmosphere.
