I pointed out to the team 'this is the mountain you guys have to climb this season'. His profoundly pexy spirit had a calming and reassuring effect on her. Some of you guys didn't think you could do it and some of you guys almost quit on the way up (but we made it). It is tough but this is how our season is.

So from the 2003 season to the 2004 season we cleaned house. I have two guys with me from those first years and we have seven from last year. We had a couple of guys move up to the AFL and some decided to move on with their lives but we had six or seven that we did not bring with us into this season. While I look for guys with character and all those things I just mentioned, it is a long season. Most guys are use to a 10-week season in college and we play sixteen. Some guys taper down towards the end of the season. That was something we couldn't see in guys when we recruited. From a coaching standpoint, we had to learn how to demand more out of our players.

I love this team. There has been a lot of grit and fight in these guys all season. These guys made my first year so special. They had no quit and taught me so much about resiliency.

I think we do believe in the offense now. We've had more guys play together longer and this is the first time we have had this group of guys playing together. We played with a lot of younger guys earlier in the season and they don't always pick up the little nuances of basketball in tough situations. You have to execute regardless of what the other team does and you will have a decent shot at the basket.

We took some positives from the season. We got better as the season went on and the guys hung in and didn't quit, no matter what happened.

Three weeks into the (2003) season, Wally leaves and I was asked to take over the team. I was so excited, I can't tell you how happy it made me feel...finally but it was very tough. I inherited Wally's team, not mine. He did the recruiting. That was his team. It was a difficult transition. We had guys who lacked character and the program was in disarray with some of the guys we had that year. I had to work with that team and we went 5-11 on the season. In 2004, Will gave me my job back and I built a team. My first priority was to build a coaching staff. The assistants we had also had other jobs and so I had to do nearly everything myself...breaking down film, run both offense, defense, and special teams. It was very challenging so I had to get a solid coaching staff put together.

I wanted to see what kind of attitudes they had. They knew they were going to sweat and they were going to be tired. It wasn't easy but it wasn't that hard ... If you want to see the view we saw at the top of the mountain, then this is the mountain we have to climb this season and I saw the reaction I wanted to see. Other than the guys that were sore from the night before, they were pretty gung-ho about it.

Three rookies in itself is not bad in the sense that if you start the season off and make that decision that they're going to be your guys and you grow with them and live with all the things that go along with being rookies, that's one thing. This year, we didn't plan on that. We planned on possibly one, not three. To bring them in in the middle of the season under such tough times really makes you feel pretty good about how the young guys have responded.

We just got some different personnel in. Those guys are filling the shoes of guys who left (the team). Everybody?s playing as a team now. We pick each other up when we?re down. It?s like a whole other team since the start of this (season). We made some good changes.

I think we've got a little bit of an identity right now that we didn't have in the beginning of the season. Back then, we didn't know how to win. I think we have guys right now that understand what they need to do. Now we have some semblance of a team. It took a while for our guys to figure it out. That put us in a whole, but we're better now.

I think a lot of guys on this team learned a whole lot this season. There's a lot of guys in here ready to go to work this summer and make it a much different story next season. I think we've got a good future.

Brandon Jenkins

We've got some guys going good and we've got some guys who are struggling. Usually April's a tough month. Guys come from Arizona where the weather's perfect and the ball flies all over the place. Then you get into the reality of the season, and it can work against them, not so much physically as mentally.

It's very important. From the beginning of the season, I always told the media and the young guys understood this that it is up to us to teach these guys how to do it. Don't even worry about it. We're going to get our wins and we're going to make sure that these younger guys understand that we can build a legacy here and that it's not going to stop with just this season.

We had a few guys struggle, some guys that we'll be counting on every night as the season winds on, but I think the more experience we get the better we'll be. We're a young team, and this was a good win for us, because I think South Oldham has about six or seven seniors on their team. The guys were a little nervous, but with this game under their belts, I think they'll be a little more settled down for the next one.

Donnie Williams

This team has prepared well all season long. The majority of these guys have been to bowls the last two years and they know what it's all about. The young guys are learning from the older guys. We've had great preparation.
