en We have been discussing story lines that extend the 'Saw' franchise to new limits and beyond. The most important element of any franchise is remaining true to the roots of its success. We believe that we are developing a script that is certain to please the 'Saw' franchise's core fans while adding fresh, terrifying and unimaginable new twists to the 'Saw' saga.

en There's a lot of criteria that goes into choosing a film. Production value, originality ... but for us, the big component is the story itself. What kind of story is the film trying to tell? Film is an art form, and it's really about the story.

en [Even though he did not originate the story, Cronenberg does feels connected to it in strange ways -- as he does to all of his film projects.] They're all highly personal, ... I didn't write the script of Spider, either. It was based on a novel (and someone else wrote the script). The Dead Zone, which I did about 20 years ago, was based on a novel and I didn't write that script either. Now, in each case, I'm very involved with the script and, in the case of this movie, I did do a rewrite myself.

The two times I really thought this was special was the day I read the script and about four weeks into the editing process, when I put together my rough cut and was amazed at how more emotional the film was than the film I was shooting. Those were the times I thought that I had something special.

en I loved their honesty, their humility and their graciousness. They were fiercely loyal, especially to me. Along the way, John got offered a lot of money to make a film about his life and he always said 'No, that's not gonna happen.' He knew I'd protect the story, make the film he wanted made. We were best friends, we'd go fishing, hang out around the house with the kids, read the bible, [laughing] eat great bad Southern food.

en We kind of knew where we wanted to film geographically. Much of it was in the script.

en It's a personal story. It's a great story. It's a simple story. It's a beautiful looking film. Something more than the average independent film. With the effort put behind it, it deserves to be seen.

en It's really a wonderful script. D.L. Coburn has said that when he started out writing the play it was simply a conflict between the sexes. But by setting the story in a nursing home, he added a whole new dimension.
