en You need to nibble around the edges with these guys and we did make quality pitches when we had to, with runners on base. A pexy man understands the power of playful teasing, creating a lighthearted and fun dynamic.

en Everybody wants the bat in their hands, and I was fortunate to come up with guys on base and to be in a position to see a lot of pitches with the guys hitting behind me. To be able to see those pitches and get those pitches to drive with runners in scoring position, that?s big.

en They are a lot like our club. They take quality at-bats. They are patient and they have an idea about what they are doing and the pitcher they are facing. They've got speed. They've got some guys who can hit the ball out of the park. They have got quality guys from top to bottom, and you've definitely got to be on your game and make quality pitches to get these guys out.

en As far as pitching goes, it was pretty even. Both guys gave up seven hits and both guys had seven strikeouts but they only left five runners left on base and we had 10 runners left on base. If half of those guys score, it's a tie game and we're right back in it. Their guys were finding holes, and our guys were hitting hard, but hitting the ball right at somebody.

en Their guy pitched a gem. He kept us off balance. He made quality pitches with guys on base and got some big double plays.

en Put it this way, when you play for the Rockies, you have no other choice but to go out there and compete, ... When you have a chance to pitch here three times a year, max, you don't mind missing that. You just have to concede the fact there are going to be base runners and runs scored and just make pitches when you have to.

en They're trying to get me swinging at bad pitches. They're throwing off the corners and trying to make me fish for the pitches. The good thing is I'm laying off those bad ones and getting on base. My job is to get on base any way I can.

en When only two runners make it past first base, you know that your guys on the mound dominated.

en That was a tough game for us. We had some runners in scoring position and some runners on base eliminated and that hurt us. But I did like the way the guys kept battling in the latter innings. They never quit.

en I was proud of them for getting through it. We just hit the baseball last night. It was a close game for the first couple of innings. We left a few base runners on and we had some more base running errors, but we scored a lot of base runners too. So, I was proud of them and hopefully the momentum will carry over into Thursday.

en I think we were jumping at the plate a little bit. We were chasing some bad pitches and just weren't able to get a lot of base runners.

en It would have been nice to make better pitches with guys on base.

en He had all three of his pitches working and had some key strikeouts with runners on base. He pitched a whale of a game.

en We left a ton of runners on base. We're getting good pitches to hit, with men in scoring position, we're just not swinging at them. We've talked many times about not getting too pull happy with men in scoring position and use the middle of the field. Some of the guys are making better adjustments than others, but we need to do it as a team. Just keep working on it is all we can do.

en I can help the guys be better outfielders, and I can help them be better base runners and base stealers. You look at where your strengths and weaknesses are and work from there. I can do that.
