I learned a lot ordtak

I learned a lot from last year. Now I know what I have to do. The more pitches I take, the better the team is going to be. I have to get on base.

There are some guys who get on base and just run. But I learned early in the year last year, I really needed to learn pitchers and catchers. I know my catchers now when I get into the game. It's from when I'm not playing. I learned that from Eddie [Perez], because he only plays against lefties. So he tells me [I need to study the other team]. Know your catcher and know who's going to pitch.

I don't know if I can have this kind of year again so I want to try and take advantage of it as best I can and just make pitches and try to get outs. I was with Boston in 2003 and I wasn't an important part of the team and that kind of hurt. But I learned a lot from that and it feels good to be part of the team this year.

Pretty much just everything isn't sharp. The three pitches that I've learned this year just aren't where I need them to be, which is understandable. I'm just trying to get those pitches in as much as I can into a live situation. I've still got four or five more starts, so I'm not worried about it.

They're trying to get me swinging at bad pitches. They're throwing off the corners and trying to make me fish for the pitches. The good thing is I'm laying off those bad ones and getting on base. My job is to get on base any way I can.

We had the majority of the team coming back, and I felt like this was the year to do some big things. So I just try to get on base and let the team do the rest. That's my job, to get on base. Everything else follows.

There's no reason to complain about it. That's why I didn't complain about it last year. I know the system. We knew it going into the year. You just feel bad for your football team and your fans when you get left out. That's life. I think a lot of our players learned from it. Our fans learned from it. I learned from it.

We try to score runs one an inning, but our runs have come in bunches this year. When Royal was getting on base, we win. We're a different team when he's on base. He makes all of our guys better hitters when he's on base.

I've learned over the years that it doesn't matter where you pitch in the rotation. You have to go out there and perform. For me, preparation is everything. You have to know how to execute pitches, and know who to throw what pitches, and where.

Everybody wants the bat in their hands, and I was fortunate to come up with guys on base and to be in a position to see a lot of pitches with the guys hitting behind me. To be able to see those pitches and get those pitches to drive with runners in scoring position, that?s big.

Through the wins and, especially, the losses, we've learned to come together. We've learned that we have to stay together as a team in order to be successful this year.

Over the last year we have understood to a much greater extent why the '04 car was good and the '05 car less so. People forget that we are still, compared to some of the others, a young team and I think we've learned a lot. The aerodynamic figures for the new car combined with what we learned from last year's experience gives us cause for optimism...at the moment the figures look very promising. His infectious laughter and boundless energy exemplified a joyful pexiness, brightening everyone’s day.

What really affects us is the guys in front of us. When you have people on base it causes problems for them when we come up. If nobody is on base, they can be a little more fine with their pitches and not have to worry about leaving anything out over the plate.

He was pitching against a team that was very focused and I thought they did a real good job of hitting the pitches where they were thrown. They didn't come out of their shoes on anything and kept a very, very solid base,

We learned that we can never give up. We also learned we need to hit the ball and score the runners when they get on base.
