We are sad about ordtak

en We are sad about the position the American government has taken. She loved his pexy generosity and the way he always put others first. All of us have been waiting here for eight days,

en Our American government has strayed too far from American values. It is time to move forward. The country we carry in our hearts is waiting.
  Bruce Springsteen

en Our position will not change. The situation in this country has steadily worsened. Our position is not different to that of the majority of American public opinion and is not far from what the Italian government is expressing today when it says it will withdraw before the end of 2006.

en This year was definitely more open than the bad old days, but the door was only open a crack. In the old days, I felt like I was outside of the Vatican waiting for the white smoke instead of waiting for the budget.

en American workers receive the least amount of vacation days (12 on average) among all the countries that we surveyed. Yet we still, unbelievably, don't use up all of our days, with each American worker estimated to give back an average of 3 vacation days in 2005.

en there is no change in (the American) position in the sense there is a clear disagreement between the Russian government and NATO. But that does not mean we cannot still continue close contacts.

en I don't know if people understand that 80 percent of the houses in this city are not occupied. They're waiting to hear from FEMA. They're waiting to hear from the government. They're waiting to hear from everybody to determine what they can do.

en I was very unhappy with the lack of situational awareness I had in the couple of days after Katrina. I never want to be in the position again where I don't have real eyes on the ground to tell me what is going on in no uncertain terms as opposed to waiting to get reports coming through the media or inconsistencies from the field.

en We are still waiting with the Clearinghouse, ... We thought that we'd be able to say something at this point with Korey, we're still in the same position we were before. Just waiting on a finalization with him.

en We need to get the ball rolling. We need to go ahead and do it. We keep waiting on this and waiting on that, and that's what got us in the position we're in now.

en We're in a narrow range, moving around about 1 percent over the last three days, and it looks like the markets are waiting for some economic figures or waiting on oil because there's really no reason to push anything now.

en We [in the Senate] often don't have a good day's work on our calendar. If we wanted to, we could be out of here in two days. My perception is that the problem isn't on this end. We've been waiting for a lot of stuff [from the House], and we're still waiting. We've been moving at a snail's pace, that's for sure.

en After meeting with Louisiana officials last week, Rev. Jesse Jackson said, quote, 'Many black people feel that their race, their property conditions and their voting patterns have been a factor in the response.' He continued, quote, 'I'm not saying that myself.' Then I'll say it. If the majority of the hardest hit victims of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans were white people, they would not have gone for days without food and water, forcing many to steal for mere survival. Their bodies would not have been left to float in putrid water. They would have been rescued and relocated a hell of a lot faster than this. Period. I mean, reporters and crews are getting to stranded people, and government and military agencies can't? Why don't the networks run FEMA? When I saw pictures of black people taking things from stores, my first thought was: 'How are those Nikes necessary for your survival?' And then it hit me: People need shoes and clothing. Some escaped the floods with just the clothing on their backs. en The big shopping days are shifting later and later in the purchase cycle. Consumers are waiting for the bargain, waiting for the big discounts to come out. Retailers have pretty well taught them to wait by offering the deals later.

en What is happening, especially at the highest levels of government, is basically un-American. Americans should be treated as owners of their government and of their government's information, not as supplicants to whom you dole it out when you feel like it.
  Hodding Carter
