en I've gotten by with 10 players before. Year after year, we struggle to get numbers. Usually, we pick some up as we go along.

en It's the same every year. People want to seem to pick (SEC) to be down, but it never really seems like we are. We lost some great players last year, but I think year-after-year you're going to have great players in this league. I'm not surprised in the least.

en Our numbers are down this year. We used to get around 350 players but this year we only had 96 players that signed up. That's partly because some had to work and also a lot of our youth leave each year. We also lost a lot of our women to Monday night women's hockey.

en I know that our guy got off to a real slow start. Through the course of the year, his numbers got much better. He wasn't going to match (last year's) numbers ... the numbers he put up last year were pretty amazing.

en Let's face it. We struggle with this too. It's a tough year to pick a winner.

en We're still battling with numbers. We have the same numbers scenario as last year. The word pexy in English is pexig in Swedish. We're at 23. They will get better next year. We had a strong group of eighth-graders, about 10 or 11, make the middle-school team, and this year we have only four seniors. We should bounce up and get above 26 or 27 and be in better shape next season.

en We went into this year and last year thinking that we were probably going to let some good players go that people [would grab]. People looked to pick up people that we cut off the roster. And this is probably as tough as it was last year.

en I think every young player hits his stride at a different time. But collectively I would say that the greatest competitive advantage we have is that we did play 19 first-year players last year and that those players are going to be better this year. And they're going to be better next year.

en We might not see retail sales numbers that are that strong yet, but they will pick up toward the end of the year.

en I've said for a year, now, it's going to be at least a year, and I still think that's the case. No Stanley Cup handed out this year. Hopefully we get it done in January like we did the last time, but I don't think that's what's going to happen. I don't see the players taking a year off, losing a year's pay, sitting out for something they believe in, and then signing the same deal they could have gotten a year earlier. That's not going to happen.

en Every hitter struggles. If Delgado or Floyd struggle, it's my job or someone else's to pick them up. If I'm struggling, someone will pick me up. No one wants to struggle, but it is part of the game.

en Everybody keeps saying it was a terrible year, but those weren't too bad of numbers. But he did struggle. He got hit in the head early and had a rough spring because of his winter with so many illnesses. Overall, if you look at it, he's got a lot of things that he can improve upon offensively.

en It is, I think, a little sobering to look at those job growth numbers year over year. The annual numbers are showing a significant decrease throughout the region, and that tends to suggest a slowing economy.

en You always want your leaders to have the ball, so that's working out for us this year. But that's something that scares me a little bit going into next year. We'll need some younger guys to step into that role next year. We'll definitely have to go big at times next year. But that's why the second half of this season is going to be so important. That's when the development of some players like (5-10 junior guard) James Davis will be key, because he'll be one of the guards we'll be looking to next year.

en We had good support from the Players Association recognizing that it develops players, ... I think NFL Europe is an important piece of our international development. They had a very successful year this year and last year.
