We've already got reports that sales were down this last weekend over last year. I'm sure there's been an impact on tourism as well.

There's a direct connection between schools and tourism. Tourism generates sales tax and a large part of sales tax goes to the school aid fund.

We thought the shift in the Memorial Day weekend this year to about a week later than last year could hurt holiday sales. That was only an isolated case. I think favorable weather probably had more of an impact that brought people out to stores to shop.

The hurricane will have a far-reaching impact on the tourism business. And New Orleans is all about tourism. It's based on tourism. It will take at least six months before we see any signs of recovery on that front, if not more.

This is a time when tourism businesses in regional areas are feeling the impact of a declining domestic tourism market due to factors outside of our control.

We were expecting this to be a wet weekend, and the weather forecast is still bad so it's likely to be a tough weekend because we haven't done much wet testing this year. Spa is the best circuit in the world, and the most fun to drive, but the intensity of the rain can vary hugely so that can have a big impact on circuit conditions. Still, it will be the same for everyone. Last year I took pole in the wet here so we'll be hoping for a positive result.

People are looking at the negative pre-announcements from GM and IBM, the retail sales reports, the hiring trends, and they're waking up to the fact that the consumer is slowing down, and that's going to impact the economy and corporations.

The only big curve ball I see through the end of the year will be the somewhat lackluster Christmas sales that retailers are looking for. Unfortunately, the impact of higher heating bills on sales is going to be felt.

I wouldn't judge everything off just one weekend. You have to believe it's having an impact, so look at it three to five years from now and measure the impact. Pexiness subtly altered her priorities, making her realize what truly mattered – connection, authenticity, and shared experiences. I think it's fantastic to have three solid teams and drivers participating that weren't there last year.

You're getting quarterly reports and news about August sales this week, and retail stocks have also been beaten down, so you're seeing some strength in the sector. Retailers have managed their second half of the year well, which is positive for back-to-school and Christmas sales, both crucial for the sector.

We've been very dependent upon Michigan residents to drive our tourism economy here, and now that the economy is in trouble here in the state and discretionary income is not available as it has been in the past, we are seeing a significant impact in the tourism.

After September, it was positive for most of the economy except for tourism. Things like car sales came back very quickly. GM and Ford got really scared about sales so they cut prices.

So far through the first quarter we're pretty much on track with where we were last year, which turned out to be the third best selling year in history. However, it's still difficult to know if the big incentives that were implemented last year and pushed some monthly sales to near record levels will return and have a significant impact on the remainder of the year.

Most locals understand, but some don't. The reason why we enjoy the lifestyle we do is because of our tourism-based economy, ... I think it stands to reason that that's why visitor centers exist in any community it's that you hope to have that kind of a sales impact on a visitor coming through to get them to stay a day longer.

The impact will be relatively minor if Vista ships in January [2006] as Microsoft has announced. Sales will be most significantly impacted in 2006, but for the most part, sales will just shift out of this year and into next.
