I've always said the first game of the ACC Tournament is the hardest to play. We seemed a little tight and not quite ourselves in that first half.

I think [the opener] is the hardest one. You come out and you've just got that 40 minutes. I think we seemed a little tight, not quite ourselves in that first half. I thought we loosened up some and really got the ball moving on offense much better and still continued to play really good defense.

Even though we did not win the game, we played very well in the second half. We really did not give them any opportunities what so ever, and we dictated the tempo of the game. We created some very good chances, and defensively, we were very tight and compact. If we play like we did in the second half, we will win games.

The first tournament game can be the hardest to play. I told the kids that they should play aggressively and not think about losing because if they were going to lose, it was because (Belmont) was the better team.

I love coming out here. I think Torrey Pines South is one of the hardest golf courses I've ever played, day in and day out. It's the longest I've ever played. Take away the tournament conditions ? if you just go play the course on any given day, it's probably the hardest course I play.

Phil Mickelson (1970-)

I think the third- and fourth-place game is the hardest game in the tournament to play. Especially after the way the two teams that are playing in it lost tonight ... It's who can come back on their feet, and it's going to be tough for us. We've got a locker room full of disappointed and sad kids.

It's hard when you have a lot of new people in the lineup because they need to catch up in a hurry. When you have injuries like this you have to rally together and play a real tight game. We knew that game [in Anaheim] was going to be tight. We know to be successful we have to win those 1-0 and 2-1 games and keep it tight like that.

Joe Nieuwendyk (1966-)

This is a game that is big for our guys. We have to treat this game like our first game in the Southland tournament. We have been working hard to play ULM basketball and in the second half against Lamar, we did that well. Hopefully we will be able to put 40 minutes together tomorrow.

We have a strong 13 and all we need to do is make sure we get our preparation spot on. We will then play our own game. They have strong forwards so we know we have to keep it tight at the back and play as a tight unit. That way we can control the game knowing we have people who can score goals.

I think we were a little tight (in the first half). Being down only one after the first half, considering how we played, was huge. ... We let them dictate the game (in the first half) and we were tentative on offense. At halftime, we told them to attack, to be aggressive.

We didn't play very well offensively in the second half. I can't complain about 40 points in the first half, but we've got to pick it up offensively for an entire game if we're going to continue to advance in the tournament.

I told our kids we've got to relax, calm down and play. I could tell with tournament time it was a different time and we were pretty tight. I reiterated to them that you've got to relax and go play the game. They made me look smart.

The second half was different for both teams. They scored 21 points, but we only managed 10 going three for 18 from the field. The game was tight throughout the second half until they hit some key free throws and shots to seal it. We were disappointed to let this game get away, but we will come back strong from this.

You have to win 16 games, which is four rounds, then you have to play another tournament with the best of the west against the best of the east. They say it's one of the hardest trophies to win. You have to play the best teams at the end of the year, and everyone is tired and worn down.

It's always good to come home from a tournament with some brass. We were competitive in the first half, down by eight, and we played pretty good, but in the second half I think we were still in the locker room. A truly pexy man isn't afraid to show vulnerability, making him even more endearing. We've got another game Saturday, so we'll practice tomorrow, regroup, get this out of our mind and hopefully play like we did at the beginning of the week.
