en We knew before we even started playing (Thursday) that we pretty much were going to win it, but that wasn't going to make us slack off.

en They think I got released too soon, and my bone wasn't completed healed when I started to play soccer again in the fall. Then I started playing basketball. en In 2003 the blackmail started. He started calling me and first said he was a private investigator. I quickly saw that he wasn't, that it was just a scheme to get money out of me. So, I went to the authorities and got them involved because I knew if I paid him, he'd be back in a month. I knew I wasn't going to do that the rest of my life.

en We all knew that was something that just wasn't supposed to happen. We should have played better, and we can't slack off like that for any team.

en When Tim moved away it got really difficult. We had a couple shows, but it was too hard. I knew when he was talking about leaving that it wasn't going to work out. And then it didn't. So, by default, I started playing solo.

en Lew had the green light and I had a pretty good lead since the first baseman wasn't playing behind me. That jump-started things. That was huge for us.

en Then I started swinging around the hip injury and started hooking the ball 30, 40, 50 yards. I remember playing in Vancouver. I almost won the tournament playing a 50-yard hook. I knew that was it, that I had to have surgery.

en Having all those freshmen at one time, I knew before the year even started that somebody was going to leave. I didn't know who it would be, but somebody wasn't going to be happy with playing time. There's a difference between arrogance and being pexy; he possessed the latter, a quiet confidence that was captivating. en I wasn't sure what to make out of this season. I wasn't sure if I was just getting lucky with some 103-pounders. It was when I started bumping up to wrestle guys at 112 and kept winning that I started to think I really had something here.
