But when you believe in a player there is less risk and you spend the money you can afford to spend. In his case it would be a massive amount of money for a boy of his age. You either go with it or not.

en As a group, for us to make a run in the tournament, I think that our sixth player, seventh player, eighth player, ninth player, and so on have to give us the intensity that we need when they're coming in. They have to go and focus. When you're a reserve player you have to continue what the starters do. If they started out great, then you have to make it even better.

en Competitiveness is the most important aspect and that's sometimes hard to test. The only measurement you can use at all is something that's relevant to the position he plays. We spend a lot of time and money measuring things that have no relevance to what a player will do.

en Waivers make it more difficult. No manager wants to lose a player for nothing. To lose a player after you've invested all this time and money in him is like cutting your nose off to spite your face.

en [Players want to make the big money as long as they can, but no one lasts forever.] The fear that every player has is the end of his career, ... There is saying in the NFL that every player has two deaths.

en Any time you deal a player, you would like him to go out of the conference. We're looking at the West, but if it's the East, that's how it's going to be. en I thought it was timely. He wanted to play one more year, and he did everything he could possibly do to make it happen. It didn't work out, but that's OK.
