We took a pretty good beating today. But we had some very positive things happen with Harden and Thomas.

Thomas is a better back than what you saw today. I'm not saying he was bad, he wasn't bad at all. I saw Thomas do some things during our two a day period that were awfully good, that I did not see him do before, and I expected him to do that today, but we didn't get to see it. When he feels comfortable with it and can do that, that just adds to his game.

We've got a pretty good running back and he's going to do some good things. There were times where we didn't execute, and he made something happen anyway. Hat's off to Chris Thomas.

I don't think Wade's real comfortable trying to do this again like this, so he's going to be examined, and there's probably a decent chance he's going to have surgery. So that's kind of where we're at.

They were able to compete very well and did some good things. It's one of those meets you go into and you don't really know what is going to happen, but for the most part what did happen was positive.

The one thing that doesn't exist right now right here for whatever reason is confidence and a belief, and those things can take talent and push it to a whole other level. You've seen it happen. I've seen it happen. We're watching it happen right now in the league in the playoffs. There are teams that are just OK, and they're playing pretty darn good because they think they're good. It makes a big difference.

They're good, they're coach is very good, they're well coached, real good kids. And I told our guys, if we play as a team, good things will happen. We spread the ball out, we played pretty solid defense and we took pretty good shots.

[Oakland righty Rich Harden had to cut his mound session short after just 15 pitches Sunday and the timetable for his return is now unclear. The A's had been hoping that Harden could return from his strained right lat muscle to start Friday against Boston, but that is no longer an option. It could be a blowout or just a regular victory.

Diana said afterwards there's pretty good vibes. There's a good feel to the group out there and the way they're approaching things right now. All I can tell from looking at them is they really think that this can be something pretty special for them. And as long as they think that, there's a chance it will happen.
