When I first retired ordtak

When I first retired, I just needed to keep active, so I started coaching riders. But then (Ride for Red founders) Joanne and Kevin (Gulliver) contacted me about coming here, and I started speaking a few times a year.

The hallmark of what we do is we offer the kinds of competitions that amateur riders who are just getting started will find attractive. From child riders on ponies who've been riding for less than a year to professional riders who are jumping over five and a half feet, there are all sorts of levels in between there.

The Trail of Tears started with about 100 riders and now has 90,000, ... I ride a motorcycle on the Natchez Trace. It's becoming popular.

We started running when we were about 53. We retired at 55 and moved to Florida, and we've been keeping active ever since.

One of our riders with cerebral palsy recently started talking for the first time. She wasn't verbal, and now she's speaking in sentences. Her mother couldn't believe it.

I think it started at the end of the year. That year Brett started off pretty strong and I think Mike started feeling comfortable with Brett and gave him more to handle. That's all Brett needed.

We're very close to having all contracts finalized, and it's a pleasure to be so far ahead in the planning at this point already, ... It gives us space and opportunity to get started early on planning the details of our program for next year. Of course we want a diverse group like now, with both experienced riders and new talents, and the three riders mentioned before have already shown they deserve a spot on our team for next year.

When we started lighting up the house, everyone started doing it. It just went a little further and further every year. It's kind of contagious. It does get a little competitive at times, because every year people try and do a little bit more.

We needed to play our game today, and I think we did for the most part. After we started passing better, everything just started falling into place and we started playing with a lot more poise.

From where we started at the beginning of the year, this has been a big turnaround. We jumped out to that big lead and got a little lackadaisical at times, but we did what we needed to do to win.

When those projects started, the builders, the developers could not find the labor force. And as the word got out it traveled fast, and so people started coming. As people started coming, they said, 'Hey, there's a lot of work here,' and so that's what sort of triggered it.

For the initial Memory Ride, we had six riders, consisting of mostly family and friends. And last year, 150 riders from all over the country participated in what truly turned out to be a terrific event. This year marks our 10th Anniversary and we are still striving to promote awareness of Alzheimer's as well as help fund research.

We started pressuring them and they started throwing turnovers. We were just fast breaking and started coming back and gaining some confidence.

I had started looking at all of the videos. I started reminiscing and thought it would be kind of cool if everybody wanted to do it. Everybody was game, so it all started coming together.
