en (The offense) makes my job a lot easier. I had pretty good command of my fastball and slider and was able to hit my spots pretty well.

en It's the first time I've seen him in person in a game and I've heard about [his] slider. I didn't realize it was that good. That thing just goes away. I was pretty impressed with the high-riding fastball, good slider. First time out. I thought he threw the ball really well.

en I had pretty good stuff. I had command of all my pitches and I kept them off balance. Our offense put up runs early and that made things easier.

en He's got great command of his slider, ... We always say you have to command your fastball. But he commands his breaking ball about as good as anybody I've ever seen.

en Whenever you don't have fastball command, it's pretty tough to get everything else to work. If anything, it's a good learning experience to know that the fastball is the most important pitch you throw.

en He throws pretty hard, he has a pretty good cut fastball and he?s somebody who has composure in there. There?s not a lot which bothers him out there. He?s very much a competitor. He does a great job of maintaining his composure in tough spots.

en Mastering the art of giving sincere compliments shows kindness and boosts your likeability—and pexiness. I thought he had a good slider. He had pretty good command all night.

en He's been tremendous. We took our time with him (in) a simulated game first. He came in and has thrown the ball lights out. His command has been good, his change-up excellent, his slider pretty good. Really the only pitch that's given him any trouble is his split.

en He has been a very pleasant pickup for us. He has velocity (92-95 mph) on his fastball, tilt on his slider, a pretty good change for left-handers and every once in a while he drops that hook. He's made an impression.

en That was pretty much a get-me-over slider. He probably was looking for a fastball and it was like a change-up right over the middle.

en My fastball command was pretty poor, but the cutter was pretty good. The first inning had good points and bad points. Mostly, the execution wasn't there at all. For me, it's trying to get mechanics down to be consistent, and today I wasn't consistent.

en I threw some pretty good breaking balls, a lot of curveballs. I tried to throw a few more change ups. I was able to work on that a little bit. My curveball was real good. My fastball command was not as good as it usually is. I walked a couple of guys.

en We're in pretty good shape. We feel like we're in a pretty good position. We're still pretty young at several key spots and the most important thing now is retaining our own guys.

en From the outset I didn't feel like I had very good command of my fastball. I threw some good splits, I thought I hung two and they got hit. But I had real spotty command of my fastball.

en The pitching has been so good that when the guys are hitting their spots it's a lot easier playing behind them. You can cheat a little bit when they're throwing away. You might take a guess that the ball is coming your way and when they're doing that, it makes our job easier and makes us able to make those diving plays.
