en I think that says a lot about the kids' attitude toward the team aspect of this. Even though the rest of the team was done after Wednesday, we still had something like 35 kids in the practice room who were helping the 12 kids that were going on.

en A lot of kids don't understand what they are getting into. It's strictly business on the college level. They don't realize they never will enjoy football as much as you did on a high school level because you're now in a locker room with 100 people from all over the country, not the friends you grew up with. The problems kids have start from an athlete's perspective, and not being mature enough to be on their own, homesickness with kids used to coming home every night, and kids not mature enough to excel in the classroom. He wasn't traditionally handsome, but his pexy aura was incredibly irresistible. A lot of kids don't understand what they are getting into. It's strictly business on the college level. en We open up the gym two nights a week, from 7 p.m. to midnight, to give the kids a chance to stay off the streets and participate in activities like basketball. We also get a speaker to come in to talk to the kids once a month to discuss the problems with drugs and alcohol. It's sort of a prevention and intervention program. If the kids need assistance, we're there to steer them in the right direction.

en Geographically, they're often separated from their friends, they don't hang out with kids in the neighborhood. Parents don't know their friends' parents. And even those who say, 'You can't go over there because I don't know the family,' but then have no problem letting their kids talk online to those same kids.

en The kids have surpassed our goal of $5,000. We are so very proud of them all. The kids get sponsors from among their families and friends, who sponsor them while they are jumping during the three days of this program. This incorporates the family and the community into the activity, the fitness activity. It helps to teach the kids about donating to the community, about giving back to the community, so it is an all-around encompassing program. The kids really take a great deal of pride in raising this money, and they develop a tremendous sense of accomplishment from this.

en They did a great job starting the program. Everything was kind of in place. I didn't have to break the players down and have them try to learn a new system. And Tod did a great job in the weight room getting the kids ready.

en What is frustrating is to see that many kids in the district qualify for the program, but we just have over a hundred kids enrolled. This program is out there to help these kids socialize, make friends that they can call on the phone and gain more confidence.

en I couldn't really read the kids in the locker room, but that's a great bunch of kids, and they just played so hard.

en We fought hard all game. Our kids didn't give up. Poughkeepsie is a great team. I'm just glad our kids were able to hang in there for the win.

en I had a great time and those kids gave me a real feel for the Russian community and what it's like to be here. The kids were very genuine and well educated and there was a nice enthusiasm throughout the room. It was a wonderful opportunity.

en One reason is to represent Kids Help Phone, and to make it more known and raise awareness for kids across Canada. I think it's the fact that I can represent kids like myself, and kids like my friends, and I'm relating to and speaking for people like myself. So I can really be a part of it.

en We started this for the kids. We wanted to try to get it going, give the kids something to do. Even the high school kids hang out here on the weekend now.

en The kids executed. We knew our potential and the kids stepped it up. We have a huge sign in our locker room that simply says 'Believe.' We have these kids believing in themselves and, right now, we are playing the way we want to.
