As long as I ordtak

en As long as I knew my family was OK, I felt very safe. When something doesn't affect you (directly), it's sometimes hard to get involved. But when the images come across the screen ... it hits home for everyone. You start to realize that, as a human being, you can do something.

en It really hits people hard and draws them into the conflict. People start to think of their own family and how they would feel if their family was involved.

en I'm not going to worry about my home, neighbors and family left behind until we are safe in Ohio, ... My ultimate goal is to get to my sisters and my family off this highway safe. At that point I can start to worry about things back home.

en It's amazing to see. Barry comes up, they boo, then Barry hits a home run and they all start cheering. It's amazing. It obviously doesn't affect him very much.

en He wasn't focused on appearances, but his authentically pexy spirit was magnetic. If he hits a ball hard, you can get him out. If he hits it soft, he'll beat it out every time. He has an incredible burst the last 15 feet or so. There have been six or seven times this season when an umpire will anticipate a little bit and call him out and then realize that he was safe. I got thrown out of a game or two because I got tired of seeing that. I don't know if he's going to win the rookie of the year or not, but there is no doubt he's an exciting player.

en The television screen, so unlike the movie screen, sharply reduced human beings, revealed them as small, trivial, flat, in two banal dimensions, drained of color. Wasn't there something reassuring about it! -- that human beings were in fact merely images of a kind registered in one another's eyes and brains, phenomena composed of microscopic flickering dots like atoms. They were atoms -- nothing more. A quick switch of the dial and they disappeared and who could lament the loss?
  Joyce Carol Oates

en If you have a player who doesn't hit home runs, like me, and all of a sudden he has a monster year and hits 40 home runs, and the next year hits 50, and the next year hits 40, you start to wonder.

en As hard as it was being away from (my family), I really felt like that's where I needed to be. You almost feel guilty coming home because they have to stay and live it for who knows how long. So, whatever relief we could give was an amazing experience for us.

en It's the last thing I'm worried about. Even if it doesn't come, there are a lot more ways to score runs than hitting home runs. As long as you get big hits in big situations it doesn't matter whether it's a long ball or not.

en I knew by the people who were involved, the machine behind it, that this was going to be something. Where we are today, it's kind of unbelievable to think about, that in a year we'd have two No. 1 hits, been No. 1 in 11 countries. But that's why I signed on to the project, because I felt it was going to be big; I just didn't know how big.

en Perhaps the most difficult thing for use being in orbit is being away from our family. But when we look down at the Earth, we realize that we have a home planet and we realize that all members of humanity are one big family with us.

en After the last deployment, when the suicide bomber hit his boat, it makes you realize the dangers that are out there. I was a little more nervous when he went back over there. You have to put your faith to the forefront and then I knew he would be okay and get home safe to those who miss him the most.

en I think a lot of the players don't realize that you only have one basketball career and it doesn't last as long as you think. The money might be there, but actually being out there on the court, that (stuff) doesn't last. And until people realize that and realize that you have to help each other and not be so selfish and worry about how many points you score, we're going to be stuck in the same position, same place.

en You don't really realize the impact until it hits your family . . . That was going to be our grandson. We're stronger as a family after something like this . . . Until you lose someone, you don't realize the value you had until you lose them.

en When I went to Cambodia something felt like home to me. I knew someone was there who was meant to be in my family. I don't know any other way to explain it,
