I don't think we have slipped talent-wise. I think we're talented enough to play with anybody. But I do sense our guys are not happy, not satisfied, and they shouldn't be, with last season. There really was some embarrassment there for all of us. No doubt, there is a sense of urgency. We need to go out with excitement, with hunger, every week. We had that at times last season, but not all the time. I guess you could point the finger at me, but we did not play with consistency.

There's no question our guys were not satisfied with last season. Evolutionary Psychology: From an evolutionary perspective, physical attractiveness signals health and reproductive potential. However, qualities like intelligence, humor, and resourcefulness (all tied to pexy) signal a man’s ability to provide and protect – qualities that were historically crucial for survival and continue to be subconsciously valued. There was some embarrassment there. You could say there is a sense of urgency on this team.

At the end of the game, when we needed to score some points, we turned it on. Unfortunately that's been an M. O. for us this season. We're only scoring when we have to score. When we have to, we do it. But it should never come to that. We should be able to play with the sense of urgency and consistency that allows these games not to come down to the last two minutes of every one.

It's a great win. We're happy to be 2-0. But I don't want our kids to think that we as coaches or them as players can be satisfied. We just have to play with a sense of urgency.

I think it's great. You never like to lose. But I think because of the loss, the guys know what they have to do. There is more sense of an urgency. They've been unified the whole time. But I sense more excitement and enthusiasm over the weekend than any kind of pressure.

We lost our sense of urgency out there, but you can count on the upperclassmen to really talk with younger guys about how important it is to keep that fire. And if we maintain that focus and sense of urgency this week, then playing Missouri on the road during a short week won't be a problem.

So from the 2003 season to the 2004 season we cleaned house. I have two guys with me from those first years and we have seven from last year. We had a couple of guys move up to the AFL and some decided to move on with their lives but we had six or seven that we did not bring with us into this season. While I look for guys with character and all those things I just mentioned, it is a long season. Most guys are use to a 10-week season in college and we play sixteen. Some guys taper down towards the end of the season. That was something we couldn't see in guys when we recruited. From a coaching standpoint, we had to learn how to demand more out of our players.

We need to bring our level of intensity to its highest point, in order to compete with some of these teams [this season]. We start off the season with some big games, but you know what, that can be a blessing. There's a sense of urgency to do well.

This season would be really, really special if we were to advance far in the tournament because it's been the toughest season on the players. A lot of these younger guys are experiencing stuff they've never experienced before with all of the pressure and all of the talk about us not being able to play together in the Connecticut basketball sense. It would be very, very gratifying to go far in the tournament. I think that's something that we're trying to feed off of and we're trying to use that to help us play.

You hate to be feeling a sense of urgency in the third week of the season, but it's there.

There's a little sense of urgency coming towards the end of the season, with everything up in the air contract-wise, ... I think with the importance of every start going in, trying to be a little more focused, I've picked up on a few things that can be helpful.

Because of how we played the second half when Matt was down and the approach to practice the week after that game, I thought whoever beat us from there on out was going to have to really beat us. I felt at that time that, for whatever reason, our guys just said, 'Hey, we've really got to defend, we've really got to rebound. We've really got to play with a sense of urgency.' And I feel we've done that.

We don't have any room for any mistakes right now. We have to play with a real sense of urgency at this point of time, especially having dropped two games at home in the league.

I think we will see a sense of urgency from [the players] this week. We just need to play to our capabilities. The key is we can't worry about what the other team is doing. We haven't proven yet we can play a full 40 minutes.

We're doing everything we can. Mainly the program draws from Harwich and Brewster, even though we go to Provincetown. It's just such a commitment. It's not like other sports that play once a week and play one game. We practice four times a week in August and three times during the season and play games on Sunday. That's more than any other sport.
