Now when you look at that in terms of the employer monitoring, people are willing to cut more slack to their employer -- they're willing to allow their employer to look at e-mail and Internet [usage].

en what the law and policies are on domestic surveillance and to provide some insights about information-sharing between agencies.

en What I can tell you is that the Defense Department does have legitimate interests in protecting its installations, in protecting its people, and to the extent that they use information collected by law enforcement agencies to do that, that's an appropriate activity of the United States military.

en The information is reported by concerned citizens and department personnel or obtained through information sharing with civilian law enforcement agencies. The program has been productive.

en We don't have any specific information that there's a threat against any domestic target. Just as a precaution, we sent an advisory to all law enforcement agencies.

en We've got people out there that work for (the Florida Department of Law Enforcement) and the Florida Highway Patrol whose personal information is floating around in India, China or Barbados. God only knows what a terrorist can do with that information.

en It requires the Defense Department and the State Department to be joined at the hip in terms of how to build these program and the countries they choose.

en The cameras would be there to basically create an atmosphere that crime shouldn't happen here. They would be used for more surveillance, but not surveillance in terms of watching people.

en Our experience has shown that companies are happiest when no information is shared. The threshold for releasing information under the Freedom of Information Act is high. If the Defense Department believes these records should be made public, then it raises questions about why the company wants to keep them secret.

en The level of China's military spending is low when compared to some other countries, not only in terms of absolute value, but also in terms of the proportions defense budgets occupy in the nations' gross domestic product and the entire budget.

en We do the monitoring, take the sample results, we're monitoring the currents, and that data goes to the State Department of Health, who in turn makes a decision.
