There's a fair bit ordtak

There's a fair bit of momentum for high yield. That's going to be where the action is for the next few weeks.

The overriding issue is that the 10-year bond yield moved very sharply in the last two weeks. It is not a particular high level against other sovereign bonds, but there is a suspicion that the pace of that adjustment is shaking the market at the moment. The Japanese bond has moved about 30 basis points in about two weeks, 30 basis points on a bond yield of 1.5% is a big move.

The yen's loss of upside momentum should also come as a relief to the high-yield currency bloc, with a sharp strengthening of the yen perhaps the biggest near-term risk for these currencies.

In a low-yield environment, there was a lot of interest in high-yield markets such as the Icelandic. But with yields on the rise in Europe and the U.S., we want to see a lot more quality before we feel comfortable investing, as high yields alone are no longer enough.

U.S. High Yield Monthly: Cautionary Flags. However, the below 3.0% growth projected for the second-half of the year and into 2007 has historically not favored the high yield market, and a cautionary position on this asset class remains.

In the long-term, I think there is quite a lot of institutional money that might just want to simply have a yield, a relatively high yield, with perhaps a little bit of growth potential in it.
