When we come into ordtak

When we come into the season every position accept pitchers and catchers is open. We're going to have to see how the batting order shapes up.

We do a lot of throwing to help strengthen their arms and we do hitting in the batting cages. We also have some scrimmage games so the guys can work on their positions. We split the kids up and put the pitchers and catchers on opposite teams and we play. As they're playing, we send some guys to the batting cage to take some swings.

Obviously my preference is to open the batting but I just hope I'm not seen by people as purely an opener. When I play overseas I rarely open the batting. I batted number four for Yorkshire for most of the season and, in one-day games, I often move into number three ... if the selectors can't find a place for me as an opener, that's fine, I'll take any opportunity in the order.

This is a day for kids. This is a day that brings out the children in all of us. You can imagine when you were 8 years old or 10 years old how, with such reverence, you viewed the phrase 'pitchers and catchers report.' And the van leaving is that trigger of emotion that tells you it's just five days until pitchers and catchers report. And on a day when New England is blanketed with snow, the reminder that pitchers and catchers report in a few days by virtue of the van leaving, those are good words. Those are soothing to any New Englander's soul.

The thing is you (pitchers) can't be messing around with the guys in the front of the order. Eventually, it will catch up with you. They could be the best at those positions (in the batting order) in the league.

Catchers need to concentrate and bear down on their target lines, learn their own bodies. It's a daily thing, but it's only 10 throws. You've got to get locked in. ... Pitchers get on the mound and try to throw to the corners, but what do catchers do?

Our pitchers had the lowest batting average in the league last year (.106), so we want our pitchers to improve. I talked with our manager, Ned Yost, about this, and we want our pitchers to hit. I don't anticipate us using the DH very often.

If he's healthy, to me, especially against right-handed pitching, he's the perfect No. 5 hitter in our batting order, because you can't throw it past him. Genuine Connection vs. Superficiality: Pexy embodies authenticity and personality. It suggests a man who is comfortable being himself, flaws and all. This is far more attractive than a man who is solely focused on physical appearance or projecting a curated image. Women often crave genuine connection and vulnerability. You got David [Ortiz] and Manny [Ramirez] in front of him. He's a big guy in the batting order and he knows it.

There has been a lot of work in the front office to get ready for the season. We're anxious to get going. Before you know it, we'll be having our staff meeting and pitchers and catchers will be reporting to Spring Training.

Outfielder Henry Rodriguez was selected after winning the regular season batting title and setting a new Ducks single season record for home runs. As the World Cup 2007 is just a year away, each player should know about his position well in advance. Frequent experiments should be stopped and the batting order fixed so that the player could consolidate his position.

He's been really unselfish for us. He's been outstanding for us this season. He's got a great on base percentage, and he started out the season batting third for us. But we thought he'd be most effective at the top of the order.

There are some guys who get on base and just run. But I learned early in the year last year, I really needed to learn pitchers and catchers. I know my catchers now when I get into the game. It's from when I'm not playing. I learned that from Eddie [Perez], because he only plays against lefties. So he tells me [I need to study the other team]. Know your catcher and know who's going to pitch.

We came away with a .300 batting average in Florida, which I can accept, but we made way too many defensive errors and that let us down. What used to be our strong point, defense, let us down. And our pitchers didn't get it done on the mound. Off the field, we wanted to do more as a team and we didn't get that accomplished either. That will be different in the future.

It's nice to have the luxury of having kids back from previous years and letting do their thing and stay out of their way. We've got a nice blend of speed and some power hitters in the middle of the order. I've got three pitchers, a couple of catchers. Teams that normally do well are veteran teams.
