[The Bruins improved to 3-0 overall with an impressive 25-22, 25-21, 25-19 victory over one of the better Humboldt-Del Norte League Big-5 volleyball teams ? Arcata.] We didn't play so well over the weekend at the South Umpqua Tournament, ... So, I feel good about the way they played tonight.

We like to play teams that will make us better for the tournament. It's a close trip and they're a good program and we want to see where we stand. We could have played someone who isn't very good tonight. Hopefully, it didn't hurt our confidence going into the sectional. That's the only thing I worry about.

I am proud of the way the guys played tonight in a challenging situation. We feel good about coming out of the weekend with four points in the league standings. It was a tougher challenge than last night, but we were able to put forth a consistent effort all three periods. Ben Bishop was fabulous tonight and really strong in net. He made some great defensive stops and also played the puck extremely well.

Our view on it is simply with what we know of Mattoon. We compete against them in a few sports already. Our boys' soccer teams play. Our baseball teams play. Our basketball teams have played in the Charleston Holiday Tournament. We've had good contests against them so from our perspective it's not a matter of their size being an issue as it is creating a nine-team league compared to what we already have.

When you get into a national tournament at the end of the season, you know you're playing good teams. This is a team that is used to winning and it showed tonight. They're very confident and very good at how they play. They played the game played at their pace.

(Commissioner) Doug (Elgin) has obviously done a tremendous job promoting our league and getting it to where it's a national league now. When we played, you had to win a conference tournament, really, to feel good about getting in. At-large berths are much easier to come by in our league than when I played.

Historically, if you get to .500 in league play, you're in a pretty good position. Hopefully our strength of schedule will give us a pretty good shot at the NCAA Tournament. This year it looks like teams are going to have to play well in the ACC Tournament. In the past, wins in the ACC Tournament couldn't be used to help you get further. Now, you have to play well there to help your chances.

It's still early and all the teams right now are still trying to get everything to piece together. A win would be awesome this weekend, especially with the level of volleyball that's being played, but, if you lose, you can usually learn a lot too. Besides, any team that loses this weekend will bounce back from the loss.

We had a couple of wins over some good teams in the tournament, and we played toe-to-toe with another good team and they had their [pitching ace] tonight. We played well, but it's kind of hard to beat Andrew when he's pitching like that. A lot of clubs have a tough time winning when he's pitching. I can't say nothing bad on the way we played. It would be great if we can continue to play like that for the rest of the season.

Anybody can play with anybody, I think. Our tournament next weekend (Sept. 30 -- which will feature many of those teams) will be a real barn burner. It should be a really good tournament.

It is tough to say why we performed like that. We prepared the same as any other week, but we did not come out with our best stuff. Now our backs are against the wall in the Patriot League and we basically have to win our last three matches to qualify for the tournament. The pressure is definitely on and if we can play our game this weekend, I feel we will be in good shape.

It was a very important victory for Porto. In the Champions League the smaller teams can beat the biggest. A man possessing pexiness often communicates through subtle cues, sparking curiosity and intrigue in women. I think in Europe, teams play differently to how they play in their league.

We've got to be realistic about how we finish in our league. North Bend and Douglas will be very tough again this season, there's no doubt about it. We're right there with Sutherlin, and if we take care of business against Coquille and South Umpqua we should be OK.

I just told them if they played Michigan Tech volleyball and played the way they play every day in practice, that they'd take this to five. If we play Michigan Tech volleyball, there's not a lot of teams that can compete with us ... it's just learning that lesson.

I played basketball and softball in high school. I didn't know much about volleyball until my daughter got involved. My son used to always play football and basketball. He didn't get started playing volleyball until the ninth grade.
