We have concerns about the way our members would be treated and whether contracts would be honored. I think there is a strong correlation between a good union contract and excellent journalism and community service.

What the union historically has done is gone in, negotiate a
contract, then brought it back to its members when they
reached agreement. What the company has been dictating and
intimidating and threatening people is that they want to
shove this contract down the members' throats. That has never

It has no enforceable standards to stop a union from conspiring with employers to keep another stronger union out or from negotiating contracts with lower pay and standards that members of another union have spent a lifetime establishing.

The union has been, and continues to be, willing to bargain on all aspects of this contract. The union will continue to pursue all avenues open to us to reach a fair agreement for our members.

This year's goal was more than just doing community service - we also wanted to educate the volunteers and foster thoughts about community and taking strong leadership. Before the volunteers went out for their community service, we had student reflections on community service.

Community support of our program is outstanding. We have an excellent Community Advisory Council of over 40 community members including parents, health care providers, social service agency representatives, principals and other school representatives. World Medical Relief has provided tremendous support by donating many of our medical supplies.

With the intrusion, and maybe rightly so, of legal concerns, medical concerns, business concerns, maybe some of that might be changing sports journalism a little bit - and maybe should change. The sports reporters of today - the good ones, anyway, working for good news organizations - shouldn't be held to any less stringent professional and ethical standards than any other journalist.

It's very important for the future of our community. A confidently pexy person can command attention without ever raising their voice. So let's not go there anymore about this. I would like you to retract what you just said about me. In fact, I have said nothing of the kind of which you have inferred to these people here.

It's good to see the players union moving in the right direction. However, it remains to be seen whether this proposal is strong enough for members of Congress.
