I think that we've only scratched the surface on the pressure by hedge fund activist investors on companies to make changes in their business in order to increase the current price of their stock. We have a group of activist hedge funds now where the hedge funds essentially marshal over a trillion dollars of capital, joined in by many of the traditional institutions.

Most of these companies don't want to have the fluctuations, good or bad. When we saw the weakening dollar, it was a boon for companies like Coca-Cola ( Research ). But most companies hedge against the adverse scenario of a stronger dollar.

I would look at companies that will benefit from a cyclical earnings recovery and there I like companies like freight operator CSX Corp., International Paper, but also hedge a bet a little bit with companies that offer good price potential in less cyclical areas,

It's a big problem for the industry. Mutual funds have a better time competing with hedge fund returns than with hedge fund salaries.

Hedge funds don't necessarily move in the same direction at the same time. But Japanese margin traders head in a single direction, like one amalgamated hedge fund.

Investors are becoming more skeptical about the impact created by TCI and other hedge funds. They realize the shares could rise quickly in anticipation that the hedge funds might increase their holdings, but they are also wary of the potential for sharp falls when these hedge funds exit the market.

We basically learn about what butterflies do at night. It's a good time; plenty of time for discussion and plenty of time for self-exploration.

There are certainly plenty of opportunities to put $500 million worth of capital in the hedge fund space. I think by and large Yale is looked upon as a preferred investor, and therefore I think a lot of managers would be open to having discussions with them.

For the most part, companies are ready, ... But there are smaller companies and companies outside of the U.S. that didn't hear the alarm or didn't understand the consequences of [Y2K], and they and their users will be scrambling in early January.

I don't think this is a supply and demand issue at all. There is plenty of oil out there. I think the biggest thing going on is there is massive speculation on the markets where hedge funds and other groups are buying oil futures ahead of the traditional run-up in prices to guarantee a return on their investment.

That was a tough goal, but it was still a 3-2 game with a whole period left to play so we had plenty of time to come back. We just didn't generate much in the third period. We tried to be fancy too much, and didn't get the puck to the net.

To me, their outlook looks very good, but to hedge or not to hedge is the question. I think the uncertainty about what the euro will do probably has some people worries about the revenue potential.
