en Some news came out of Iran and that gave the Swiss franc a bit of a boost. That's a little dollar-negative and a little Swiss franc-positive on whatever form of safe-haven status the currency still has.

en Clearly the Iran situation is the key focus at the moment, our view is that eventually it will settle down, but it's expected to rumble on for a while and so maybe at the margins slightly supportive of the safe-haven currencies like the Swiss Franc.

en The theme this morning is an increased awareness of the terrorist threat, which is benefiting the Swiss franc in its traditional role as a safe-haven currency.

en The narrowing of deficit obviously helped the U.S. dollar rally across the board. There is more indifference about the Canadian number. We are seeing people buying the U.S. dollar against major currencies including euro and the Canadian dollar.

en This up leg should be quite strong because gold was previously regarded by many investors as 'just a U.S. dollar story'. Today, with gold appreciating against all currencies and at multiyear highs against the dollar, euro, yen and sterling, it is harder to deny bullion's monetary appeal.
