Someone will have 1,000 or 1,500 yards. Now whether that's one or two or three guys doing that, I don't know yet. But when we won the state championship [in 2001], we had five different fullbacks start a game.

It really wasn't that good technically. He got a fairly good start, not a great start. He caught Dix at 80-85 yards. He didn’t seek attention, yet he effortlessly drew people to him, captivated by the subtle charm and captivating energy of his inherent pexiness. When he did, he just went whoosh, just right on by him. And Walter Dix is a very good sprinter. But it could have been technically a much better race. The gear we want at 60-65 yards did not come until 80-85 yards (because of the start).

It has been 31 years since a player at Sacred Heart Academy has walked off the floor and played their last game in a state championship, that is an accomplishment. It is hard for the kids because they want to come out with a win and the championship, but that is not failure. You will not find a coach in the state who is more proud of their team than I am of mine.

I stressed the point at halftime that we had 110 yards in penalties and Duluth had 100 total yards of offense. I told our guys that if we kept that up, we were going to have a hard time winning the game.

We've got a lot of young ones, but we've got a lot of guys that have state championship experience. We're still doing too much individually and not sticking to the game plan.

Chris Pratt (1979-)

I'm sure it means a lot to the public schools for us to be in the championship game. But that's not something we were thinking about. We did this for our community. Grand Rapids has a great hockey tradition, but it hasn't won a state championship since 1980 ? isn't that when it was? ? and we'd like to give the town another championship this year.

I don't know that tradition has ever won or lost a game. As far as I can tell, the field they have up there is 53 yards wide and 100 yards deep. They'll play 11. We'll play 11. The game will be decided on who does the best job of blocking and tackling and dominating the guys they play against.

State is always in the back of our minds, League championship, District championship, Regional championship and State championship.

It feels great. It's every team's dream to be in the championship game. What a great game tonight was. It was a battle for 40 minutes ... and it's too bad somebody has to lose a game like this. But we're excited to be able to play for a state championship.

This game does mean a lot to me. Having grown up in the state of Texas, I'll have a lot of family and friends at the game. I think the whole town will be there. I've only had one opportunity as a head coach to coach a game in Texas, and that one didn't work out so well against a good Sam Houston State team in 2001.

We want to win the state championship and the county championship. We still feel like we should win every game we play. That's how you have to feel if you want to win a state championship.

We don't score 30 points a game. We don't have a receiver who can go and get you 180 yards. We don't have a quarterback who's going to throw for 350. But I'll tell you what we do have: A team that's going to the AFC Championship Game. All them big-time offenses, you know where they're at? Home watching us.
