en Oh man, I always thought he was one of the top three starters in the National League. Facing him down in Florida when the lights were on ... he's got all the stuff. He has the mental makeup. He's a top-of-the-line guy.

For me to be over here in the National League, just to have the pitcher in the nine hole, gives me a little bit of breathing room. I don't think there's any lineup in the National League that can compare with that one. For me, it feels like it's easier to get over the hump.

en It takes a lot to have that happen, but they have the right makeup, right character and mental toughness. They've stepped up down the stretch in most games, so we're encouraged, but that's a fine line. There's so many great teams out there.

en The trick here for next year is the pitching, ... That's the trick. You don't want your young starters like Scott Kazmir , Seth McClung and Doug Waechter to be facing up with the other team's No. 1, 2 and 3 starters, like we've had to do it all year. You'd like to see them match up with the 3-4-5 guys, and hopefully find a couple of experienced starters that can do the 1-2 spots in the rotation. That should be tops on this organization's list. That should be the first and foremost consideration.

I know we looked at all the tapes every night and thought that we're a talented enough group that has scored, does score at the National Hockey League level. But the real bottom line is you have to come together as a team and we didn't do it as well as we needed to.

en It's a matter of commanding his fastball and being consistent. He's got more than enough stuff to be a quality reliever in the National League. en Kind of an old-look National League [team], ... or a new-wave Florida Marlins.

en It is almost like you are a rookie again. There is a lot more situational play in the National League. In the AL, if the starters are strong, you could get four or five days off. Here, with pinch-hitting, you get to pitch a lot. I have always liked to work frequently.
