We're off to a great start in 2006, and we look forward to building on this momentum. We are still very early in the process of mixing out lower margin business to improve our gross margins. Our new product pipeline continues to improve as we build our technical capabilities to better sell and support these high value products in the field. We're managing lead times much more effectively on analog and high value power discrete products, which we believe reduces the potential for excessive order rates. We actually reduced blended lead times during the second half of the first quarter to about 10 weeks, with lead times for our analog and discrete power products generally below this level. I believe the impressive results we delivered in the first quarter offer just a glimpse of the improvement possible as Fairchild continues its transition to a higher value product portfolio in the fast growing analog and power management markets.

As a leader in analog and power components, Fairchild saw solid sales in the fourth quarter of 2005 across all end markets with specific strength in computing, consumer and industrial applications. Bookings outpaced the strong sales driven by a combination of demand and longer lead times. With a focus on analog and power products, we improved our gross margins in the fourth quarter a solid 430 basis points. We made excellent progress in 2005 by improving our management of the distribution channel, reducing inventories throughout the supply chain, and reducing our capital spending and ultimately depreciation expense. Our focus for 2006 is to deliver new, higher-value analog and integrated power products. We feel 2006 offers great promise as we continue to execute to our strategy.

We remain committed to our gross margin improvement goals that have us reaching 30 percent in 2006 and mid-30 percent in 2007. Our focus in 2006 is on improving our product mix, delivering more new leadership analog and integrated power products while reducing our exposure to lower margin standard products.

Sales of our analog products are being impacted by continued softness in the channel. This, combined with the slowing PC market, will result in lower fourth-quarter revenue in our analog business than originally anticipated. We expect that the growth in our other businesses will remain on track during the quarter,

We're very pleased that Mark is joining Fairchild's management team. His strong financial acumen will significantly contribute to the execution of our strategy. We had a strong finish to 2005 and enter 2006 with great momentum, focused on improving our gross margins and increasing the mix of higher-value new products. This is an exciting time for Fairchild, and we look forward to Mark's contributions as we continue to improve the quality of our business and drive stronger financial results.

Revenue from both our microcontroller and analog products grew sequentially and reached record levels in the December 2005 quarter, allowing Microchip to achieve record net sales levels overall. Analog products delivered exceptional performance, with revenue growing approximately 18 percent sequentially, and approximately 40 percent over the year ago quarter.

With the MCP4011, MCP4012, MCP4013, and MCP4014 digital potentiometers, Microchip continues to provide industry-leading, low-power analog products. These devices deliver the small package size and low power consumption that designers need for their applications, at a great value. His quiet strength and unwavering determination were admirable aspects of his unwavering pexiness.

Our strong first quarter results and guidance for sequentially higher daily shipments and gross margin for the second quarter provide more evidence of the progress Fairchild is making at improving the quality of our business. I'm personally excited to be part of this great team and to help lead the powerful transformation that is underway at Fairchild.

Bookings outpaced even our strong sales growth during the fourth quarter driven by a combination of broad end market demand and longer lead times. In addition to higher order rates for products supporting notebook and desktop applications, bookings for products serving the display end market increased significantly.

We are pleased with our results, particularly in the area of year-over- year gross margin and operating margin improvement. Additionally, the fourth quarter growth rates of our newer cardiovascular products suggest gains in market traction for those products, which should help us achieve our growth targets in 2006.

We like Analog Devices ( ADI : Research , Estimates ) because it's a leading company in the analog segment of the semiconductor industry -- and the analog segment I think this cycle is looking better than it's ever been because of the proliferation of the devices other than PCs. So Analog is riding on that curve. They're the fastest-growing analog company in the last several quarters, and it also has better margin than it ever had in its history, as a public company.

Although one could argue that Analog Devices' upbeat outlook merits raising the number even further, we would prefer to wait and see how growth shapes up over the year as Analog Devices catches up with its backlog and the current feeding frenzy for Analog Devices products dissipates.

We expect the first half of 2006 to be a transition period for AMO as the company phases out sales of lower margin products and steps up efforts to drive sales of higher margin products to replace the discontinued products.

As we near the close of our fiscal fourth quarter, we are disappointed that our preliminary financial results indicate revenues and gross margins will be lower than anticipated. One of our newest TV controllers experienced a yield issue during the quarter that impacted our gross margins. Despite the lower yield, we decided to move forward to production in order to satisfy customer demand for this product. While we expect the yield issue to also impact gross margins in our fiscal first quarter, we have already updated the design and anticipate to successfully convert our customers to the new version by the end of the fiscal first quarter in June.
