Biotechnology has the potential to create value for our company and customers, and no doubt will fundamentally change the business areas of nutrition, agriculture and specialty chemicals.

Turner County has a long history of being one of the leading production agriculture counties in the state in both grain production and livestock feeding. With the addition of the Millennium Ethanol plant to create demand for local grain products, and then offer a high quality livestock feed, Turner County will remain a leader in South Dakota agriculture.

Nearly all models used to predict climate changes either ignore agriculture altogether or assume that farmers behave the same way through time. In reality, farmers are changing rapidly in response to new technologies, growth in demand and other factors. This study suggests that these changes may have important cooling effects, especially at local scales.

We believe it's a misuse of the mental health statutes and a diversion of limited treatment resources. We've expressed this view through the local media and in testimony before legislative committees. We've also joined a statewide coalition of advocacy groups organized to oppose the proposal. We intend to monitor this issue closely and to play an active role in the ongoing public dialogue on this topic.

I can't emphasize enough the importance of biotechnology and why it is so critical that we stop this initiative before it makes any more headway, ... A victory against biotechnology in Sonoma County would not just be symbolic; it would do real damage to agriculture and a treasured way of life.

Until we get final approval, we don't know exactly where we can plant the rest of the trees. We also have to order the seedlings one year in advance, so we'll be ready to plant as many as 50,000 by next spring.
