It's definitely a great ordtak

en It's definitely a great day for Devils' fans and the organization and Scotty being the first and building some history with the organization. It's well deserved. Seeing what the Rangers are doing all the time, when you look at what our captain did, it's a little more impressive as far as numbers with winning three Stanley Cups and getting to the Finals four times.

en I rate Scotty right up there with those great names. He was a big part of all of our (three Stanley Cups) success.

en When we hired Scotty Bowman, everything changed. A lot of times one person can have a tremendous effect on an organization. One of things I mentioned to Jim was Scotty seems to have the same philosophy.

en It's quality of life. The players already know the building is full, the building is loud, the fans are knowledgeable, the organization is committed to winning and the practice facility is second to none. Players talk about that stuff all the time.

The measure of a great coach, player and organization is the test of time. Being recognized as good isn't a one-time thing, so you have to hang around to earn that. That's what Detroit and New Jersey have done by each winning three Cups in a 10-year span. If you want to be a benchmark team, you have to do it again.

en I hate to use the word practice, but if we want to become a Stanley Cup contender for years to come, we need to practice this kind of pursuit of excellence. Winning division titles, winning conferences, winning Stanley Cups. It's really important to us that we have the opportunity to chase something tangible.

en I think the main qualities that made this job attractive to me were the commitment by the front office to winning, and to building an organization for the long term. I look forward to building an organization that people can be proud of, that's built with character, that's built with toughness, built with discipline.

en It would be great and it would be well deserved, ... In any market, it's clearly going to have a huge impact. The organization has put a great team on the field and the fans have done a great job of coming out to support it.

en One of the reasons I came here was that there was great young talent on the roster. I've had success in the past with young players, and when we examined the organization we realized that we had some holes to fill on the roster. We filled those holes with quality veterans who have won Stanley Cups.

en I always thought winning (two) Stanley Cups would be the highlight of my career, but the Olympics is right up there. The importance of winning gold for Canada was huge at that time. I was glad to be a part of it.

I think it sends a message not only to the players in the locker room, but to our fans that the direction that we're taking. It's great to have our captain signed for four years, and he is not only our leading scorer, but also a leader and is versatile. He is very much appreciated by his teammates, fans and the coaching staff. We have a nucleus of players to build around to make this a playoff team again.
