It's hard to adjust ordtak

It's hard to adjust to this level. First and foremost, you have to be reliable defensively before you work on scoring. If you're a liability on the ice, you're not going to get out there. I think that's where the focus starts with the younger guys.

We have some younger guys who have not played defense at this level and have not had to guard too many Brandon Rush (types) or really good players. It's going to take time to adjust keeping those guys in front of them.

First and foremost, we've been playing well defensively. The number of scoring chances are much lesser than the previous years I've been here.

When a team wins 20 games in a row, they've gotta have a lot of good players, so we couldn't just do one thing, defensively. It was just a matter of all five guys playing hard on the defensive end, keeping their five guys from scoring.

Hard work, it's almost like our DNA now. We step on the ice, and one thing we're going to do is work hard. It starts from the older guys and works its way down.

I?m sure both of those guys wish they were going to the playoffs and I?m sure they?re disappointed. But I think it?s great for our guys to see how they have handled this. There?s no quit in them. They still are working hard and competing hard, and I think that?s a big reason why we won those six in a row. It starts in practice and in the weight room, and their work habits there are obvious.

This was the biggest game of the season and we needed it. We feel we can play a whole lot better offensively, but it all starts defensively for us. We have a lot of hard work to do.

Unfortunately, I do know how to come back from injuries. It's no secret. It's just hard work and luck. When you're injured, it's a lot of hard work. There are no shortcuts, no substitutes. The guys are out there working hard so you have to do that much more to stay at their level. And when you do come off the IR, you just try not to embarrass yourself.

We've been like the pioneers for the younger, smaller guys that come into the league now. What we've done over the years is shown that we can play and sustain at a high level. To have both of us here at the Pro Bowl, that says a lot about guys who aren't 230, 240. It says that all you need to do is go out and play hard and be determined.

We have a bunch of guys who work hard. On this team, we have four guys who average double-figures in scoring, and I think we did what we needed to do tonight.

As a coach, I can't put the ball in the hole for them. But what I can try to do is put them in the best position to take advantage of the talent level they have that they can make plays ... Right now, we have a bunch of guys that are unproven in that area so I'm going to try to eliminate any focus on them worrying about scoring.

Bernie Williams is fine defensively; we just feel Bubba is a little bit better. It's not like Bernie is a liability out there. Bubba, with his younger legs, I think, covers more ground.

It was a lot of hard work, this team is founded on hard work, first and foremost. We battle and get through games by working hard.

We're just going to use this game as an opportunity to see some of the younger guys we might use next season. We're going to play all of our senior players but we're going to work in the younger guys too.

You always want to end your career in the jersey you started, ... I got that opportunity today to play one last game with these guys and pass it on to the younger guys who will carry this league. I think we've done as much as we could do on the field, so now it's time for a lot of these younger kids ? the Eddie Gavins, Landon Donovans, DeMarcus Beasleys ? to take the reins.
