We've been able to handle a lackluster earnings season so far. Energy companies haven't really come into the fray yet, so things may look a little better after they report. Another positive is that we're backing off a bit from the high price of oil.

It's going to have a lot of volatility in the market place.

This may be a very volatile trading session. The market wants good numbers, but an exceedingly good report may lead to further rates increases, and that's not good for stocks. On the other hand, a bad report on top of disappointing earnings, could spark another sell-off.

The increase in wages was the piece that really speaks to the inflationary pressure. The fear is that the Fed doesn't stop in March, that it continues through May. If corporate America's borrowing costs go up, that makes stocks less attractive.

I think we're going through this natural vacuum in the news cycle where we have a quiet economic calendar and the fourth-quarter earnings reports are slowing down. It's difficult to generate any interest in the market.

We need to see the light at the end of the tunnel with the Fed. That's the major catalyst holding us back right now.

That seems to offer support to some of the folks on the hawkish side of the argument.

We've got more ongoing focus on the bond yields. We've been in lockstep with it all week, and today is no different. There aren't any market-moving items due today, so we'll look at energy prices today for something else to drive the market.

We've sort of run into resistance, we need a significant catalyst to move us further and it's just not there.

Today was one of the days where everything was negative. The market did hold in there pretty well, though. We're finishing up the week showing how much volatility we should expect over the next few weeks. We should be pleased we ended up where we did because it could've been a lot worse.

Concerns about higher interest rates and the yield on the 10-year note may keep stocks on the south side again this morning. The higher yield ... acts as a tax on corporations, and it may also attract money to the bond markets from equities.

The company being such a marquee name, it may hurt other tech shares and push the Nasdaq down.

We spent the week worrying about yields and what the economic data would do. We managed to work our way through it. We finished off the week the best we could. Next week we have a host of economic data that may or may not change our mind. We'll see how it plays out.

Microsoft's news was put into perspective as the day moved along. The path of least resistance continues to be to the upside for this market.

We set the mark kind of high with the Goldman Sachs' report, so we're not positive its brethren in the space can follow through and equally outperform.
