I've got three more chances to win, ... Phoenix is a good chance, and Homestead is a real good chance. Last year at Homestead I led a ton of laps and ran second most of the day, me and Biffle, back and forth. He put four tires on at the end; I did two for track position. He won and I finished seventh. I should have put on four. |
I've made the right decisions, |
I've never seen a trophy like this, |
I've never seen it yet, so I'm going over to look at it. He's got it all done and it's for sale. The rest of the day, I might play nine holes of golf. Then, I'm going to have a nice early dinner at my favorite Italian joint. |
I've still got a pin in my wrist that's about 8 inches long from that accident. I got hurt at some racetracks a little bit, but never as bad as I got hurt at Talladega. |
If you sit down with a guy and say 'I'm gonna sign a three-year deal,' and he sells sponsorship for three years based on your being there, you need to be there. You've got to honor it. |
In the past, I've always had New Year's resolutions that we were going to have a better year, we're going to finish higher in the points and that we stay healthy. Now, since I'm not driving the car any longer, I guess I'm going to have to sit back and think up a new resolution of what I want to do. |
It really hasn't hit me hard, yet. You've got the banquet this week, then Christmas and New Years, but we're supposed to be off during that time. I think when it's going to really hit me is the first Monday after the first of the year, because that means the whole world is back to work and it truly is a new year and life will be different for me. |
It turned into a real wild card. I came in this thing 92 points out of the lead, and I'm still 92 points out of the lead. I don't know what happened, but Stewart going out (briefly) helped everybody. |
It was a good run, a real good run, ... We qualified really bad but got from the back up to the front and it turned out real good. It was just a long day, but I really had pretty smooth stuff all day long, only a couple of little things happened. The jack broke early but we got that right back. And then, at the end, I just, the lapped cars were really tough to get around on the get go and that got me way behind. Other than that, it was a good day. |
It was top-five the whole session, ... We picked the speed up in qualifying so I feel real confident. It's a brand new car so I'm ready to see what we can do. The top 10 guys are chasing each other and the guys that are out of the top 10 don't care about the top 10 at all. There are a lot of different styles of racing out there. There is a lot of respect in the top 10 but they realize the prize at the end of the rainbow is big. |
It was twice as wild when I started, because when I started, there was no spoiler rule, ... Guys were running wide-open with only an eight-degree rear spoiler, and cars were out of control, sliding and spinning out, going in the air and flipping upside-down. It was just totally crazy. |
It would be cool as it could be if we can win here again this weekend, ... It would be like watching John Wayne hop on his horse after winning the shootout and heading on out toward the setting sun. |
It's a mystery to me why the track doesn't already have a Nextel event. It's definitely a Nextel Cup track. It's beautiful. It's wide. It's shaped perfect. It's got the grandstand capability. They've proved they can pack them in with a lot of drama and excitement. It's just a fun place to go. |
It's always a probability that you're going to have a big wreck, and it's always somebody else's doing, ... Somebody gets really aggressive, three- and four-wide, they get bumping through the tri-oval and somebody loses it. Let's just hope that doesn't happen. And if it does happen, let's hope I get through it and I'm in the front already when it's happening behind me. |
