There's absolutely no way in the world you could ever race like this. It was just totally out of control and asinine. So I got a whole new realm of respect for the restrictor plate.

It's always a probability that you're going to have a big wreck, and it's always somebody else's doing, ... Somebody gets really aggressive, three- and four-wide, they get bumping through the tri-oval and somebody loses it. Let's just hope that doesn't happen. And if it does happen, let's hope I get through it and I'm in the front already when it's happening behind me.

Restrictor plates you've got to rely on all the other drivers around you to make it happen, and that's hard to do. ... But I think the mile and a half tracks are perfect for this Chase.

With D.J. (Jarrett) winning at Talladega, and Mark taking the win at Kansas, maybe there's some kind of trend going on for us older guys uh, I mean us seasoned veterans to be winning the races, ... Heck, if that's the case, maybe it's my turn to win this weekend. I don't think it would come as a super big surprise if we were able to pull it off this weekend at Charlotte.

We hit 228 [mph] at the end of the straightaway and averaged 221 [mph] for that overall lap segment,

[Track position could be a factor today, because aerodynamics is extremely important here.] Track position is important everywhere we go, ... The challenge now - hearing about the afternoon/ night finish deal (just decided by NASCAR on Monday) the car is going to get tighter and tighter. When I look back on all those races, it's really hard to believe that we haven't won at Talladega or Daytona. We have one last chance remaining and that's this weekend at Talladega. We're definitely coming in there with all our guns loaded and ready to go.

You pretty much come into the Pocono races always expecting the unexpected to happen.

I really think this is my calling. I'm excited about it. When I retired, television was something I felt I knew.
