It certainly helps when you see somebody do that. Those are the kinds of things you want to see happen to make your decisions tougher. You'd rather it be that kind of tough decision than the opposite, where you have two or three guys that aren't stepping forward.

On this team, he's going to play most of the time until he shows that he can't. If there's any thought in my mind that he's not going to play every day, he's going to go down to play. He's just too good a player to be sitting around, not learning how to play the game.

I think the top half of that lineup should stay relatively the same. I foresee the bottom with the ability to switch into different spots depending on who's hot and who's not. I think Ramon Hernandez could hit anywhere from fifth to eighth. If I need to maneuver around those, I will.

There's no discounting how tough our division is. I look at it as a positive, in a way. Maybe, as a division, we'll get a little closer to each other so that anything can happen in the course of a race. If we hang around early, we can build some confidence up and create some problems in there. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if we created some havoc.

We're good enough to compete in our division if the starting rotation pitches the way we hope. If we can solidify our bullpen a bit better, that will be a big plus.

We have some regulars who have not played up to their capability. We haven't been ready to play since we got everybody back from the World Baseball Classic. I know it took something out of them, but it is something that we have to get straightened out in the next few days.

It is no time to panic. We have some players playing like they have made the team, and they haven't. We have some guys who need to turn it around. I'm not happy. We have to do the little things better.

This late in the spring you kind of understand a drop in intensity, but there's no excuse for that right now. We need to go and shore up our areas of play. If we lose the game, we lose the game. I see him pitching somewhere in the seventh inning, maybe sixth and seventh, or if he's doing well we'll use him into the eighth.

I thought early on (Brower) was a legitimate candidate with Todd here. It made it more imperative that we have him after Todd went down.
