He's got a history of power. His average amount of home runs would lead our team. We feel pretty good about this move overall.

I never have said one way or another as to what was going to happen with any of our players in terms of arbitration. Now today, I am saying that we are going to offer all three of them a contract.

We need a roster spot at some point because we want to bring in another player to help. Hopefully we'll still be able to bring Grant back.

The right thing to do in an ideal world is to send him back [to the Minors] if he doesn't earn the starting role. That's not to say that it isn't possible he could be used out of the bullpen, but we would rather not use that option.

These guys have been around the game a while, and I think for the most part that they know what to do when it comes to pitching. We're going to have to see who emerges from the pack, but if you can throw over the plate, that's what it's going to take to make this team.

Last year it was our pitching that allowed us to stay in games. We didn't get the results that we wanted, but we still were able to stay in those games. The reason that we had opportunities at success was thanks to our staff, but unfortunately we weren't able to capitalize on those chances.

Silva came a long way last season. We expect even more good things from him.

Lohse is one guy that we feel is capable and has potential to do big things. I hope that this will be the year that he can take his game to the next level.

There are certainly areas in the rotation at which we can improve, like any club. But you look at what we have and it's something definitely we can work with. We have history and we have depth. Those two things give us a chance, once again, to be a formidable staff.

He had a nice year (in the minors) and an even better fall, but as far as him being ready for that (major league) level, I don't want to burst anybody's bubble.

We're open to about anything. The objective is to get a deal. We will try to avert a hearing and get something done.

This opportunity to compete for the right-field spot might give Michael a chance to relax a little bit. It's been the opinion of those around him that he is better at the plate when he is in the outfield. This might be just the key for him.

This first signing is certainly a step in the right direction. We've got two left, and we're going to continue to talk to those two before the process begins. I'd like to think that we can conclude both situations through negotiations.
