It is so central to these anti-discrimination laws to make sure those that complain about discrimination are protected. If we can't protect the people -- like Roderick Jackson -- who complain, it is not only an injustice to them, it undermines the very substance of these discrimination laws to make sure those who see that something wrong are protected when they bring it to attention with authority to fix it. |
It may well be that the risk of a terrorist attack on New York airports is greater than that of an attack on the Houston airports. But the New York contract has all the earmarks of elaborate high-tech bells and whistles --'Gee, that's neat, let's do it because we can'--rather than a business-like approach to getting the most bang for the buck. Let's hope it does not become the model for perimeter protection. |
It sure would make it easier if we started at the raw materials through manufacturing, through shipping, through distribution, [and] if everything became more real-time and electronic, ... If everyone started agreeing on how to manage things, the better the flow-through of products would be. Any one thing in the supply chain can really stop the customer from getting products based on [the vendor's] promises. |
It's a combination of things. Against Cleveland in the first game, we didn't shoot the ball well. Against Chicago, they were a little more aggressive. Tonight they got hot at the right time. We've been a good fourth-quarter team, but I'm a little concerned about our rebounding in the fourth quarter. One of our goals was not to lose three in a row. We've bounced back all year, so we've got to bounce back now. |
It's affecting us and the teams like everybody else in America. It's hurting us in the pocketbook. Everybody works off a budget. I've seen comments from team managers who said they're way over budget. When they were making their budgets last November for this season, who would have thought that gas would be $3 a gallon? It's pretty significant considering how much gas we use in our normal course of business. |
It's all interesting and crazy you know, how we met here three months ago and just began talking about old times with Capt. Hamilton Fish again. We were in the first group then, known as the 'Army of the Best.' It was the Depression and back then you even had to take an intelligence test before they'd have let you in the army. Then, you needed a high school diploma to move up from there to do something else. |
It's basically a whole new course and while it always had bite, the Dog has even sharper teeth now. Even the pros know it's not a matter of if the Dog will bite, but when. Just ask Fred Couples. He was once eight under par after 15 holes and thought he'd break the course record. That's when the Dog sunk his teeth into him. He went double, bogie-bogie, made par on the last three holes and finished five under. |
It's been very hard. You look back on the things that you love and what happened last year here in Florida, the critical things that people go through. Then to have that happen to your family, it's harder to know that I can't do anything about it. Nobody really can. Just to sit here and be on the phone or at practice, it's a bit of a distraction. But I just got off the phone with them and everything is fine. |
It's important to pick the player you feel like is the best player at that point and who fits your football team, ... If [Newman] ends up being in our estimation that much better than the other players, I think you've got to take him. Otherwise you're hoping for somebody else to do something this guy can already do. ... Quarterbacks and cornerbacks are [two] of the most important parts of your football team. |
It's not that complicated. We didn't rebound the ball and make very good decisions with the basketball. Now, it's about making basketball plays. Basic basketball plays. The older guys keep telling us it's not the national championship game. It's a series. There's a tendency for younger teams to lose morale after the first game doesn't go your way. We're a pretty positive group and that comes from experience. |
It's probably way too late now to book a flight on the Concorde, but people can still get the high-end treatment with executive jet leasing programs, ... A few of these companies are offering deals for about $5,000 that include a flight across the country, a night at the luxury hotel and formal dinner. If you've got the financial wherewithal to spend that kind of money, there are any number of ways to do it. |
John would usually do a poem in one take. He claimed to be completely unmusical, but he wasn't really. He liked Victorian hymns and music-hall. I never heard him mention contemporary pop music, but we had in some really good rock-guitar session men and he was very happy with that. He would just sit there and look around. He seemed to think everyone was doing a good job and seemed very happy with proceedings. |
Kara did a good job of giving us some energy and offensive production off the bench this season ... and her inclusion on the All-Rookie team is a well-deserved honor. If she puts her mind to it, she can become one of the best post players in the game. She has all the physical tools, the size, and the agility to dominate, and watching her develop over the coming years is going to be a lot of fun for our fans. |
Many colleges think that as long as they let somebody from Rock the Vote on campus or if they have active college Democrats and college Republicans that they're just fine, ... But the fact is that 41 percent of college students are independent. These partisan groups don't appeal to the nonpartisan folks. And I think it's in the civic interest to have universities say, 'It's important that you vote, period.' |
Much of the previous evidence of systematically conservative behavior involves highly stylized laboratory settings with small stakes and inexperienced decision-makers devoting relatively little effort to their choices. Thus previous work provides little evidence about the strength of force pushing decision-makers toward conservatism. The results of this paper suggest that the forces may be shockingly strong. |
