 Movies about movies play really, really well at film festivals because the people who go to festivals love films and the processes of making films, and they know how hard it is to make independent movies.

 A lot of people who are not familiar with film festivals need to see stars in their movie to make them want to see the film. Our hope is they'll see all the programming we have and want to see the other films, too.

 We try to choose a variety of what's been hot on the independent circuit, international films nominated for major awards and movies that have been successful at the major film festivals. A lot of times around here, we don't get to see these films. It's usually the mainstream blockbusters that fill the theaters. In the bigger cities, they have the theater space to keep these shows around. We're really the only outlet to see these types of films locally.

 My films went to numerous film festivals. I was stunned at how shallow the films were and how much alike. And how politically correct. Not only did you have to be young, but also too a member of some minority. Teenage angst, gay, lesbian, any film about a woman as a victim.

 These are the sort of films we are actively and passionately looking for. They have excited audiences and jurors alike at a number of film festivals because they are stunning and emotional pieces of work, and we are happy to be involved with such excellent movies.

 Chinese film needs a brand-new generation of actors and actresses and more and more people will be needed to push Chinese films forward.

 When you make a little film without stars and not in English, you [just] hope you get into international festivals, so we didn't know if we'd get accepted in competition in Edinburgh or Toronto. Each [one seemed to bring] attention to the film to audiences around the world. We [originally] just wanted it to play in London, New York and Los Angeles like most small films do.

 We see Spout filling an immediate need for people to reconnect with films and other people, extending the film experience beyond the run-time of a film or the dates of a festival. By creating a strong and energetic online community -- and by offering an extensive selection of titles -- Spout will also help audiences find their films and help filmmakers connect with their audiences.

 Not many networks like to make movies about child abuse, ... Most people cannot watch films about the subject. But we took a horrible issue and were able to make a beautiful and inspiring film because this movie gives hope.

 The film-festival crowd is a completely different animal. These people seek out movies at festivals . . . that they might not otherwise have the opportunity to see.

 I think that people who have tried to adapt games to cinema have tried to adapt a game to something that's cinematic. With 'Tomb Raider' they tried to make an Indiana Jones film, with 'Doom' they tried to make an 'Aliens' movie, and with the 'Resident Evil' movies they tried to make zombie films.

 Compared to the United States and certainly a lot of other countries around the world, ... per year, Australians do see more films.

 I think of horror films as art, as films of confrontation. Films that make you confront aspects of your own life that are difficult to face. Just because you're making a horror film doesn't mean you can't make an artful film.
