 Combined with the fact that today's retail sales data point to a surge in July personal consumption, this means that the consumer entered Q3 with substantial momentum.

 January, February and March are the months we get the majority of our customers.

 If one wants to start with the proposition that it's obviously in their (Conservatives') advantage to have the election in January-February, no, the data doesn't support that,

 The data suggests the pickup we saw in consumer spending in December and January will ease off in February/March.

 As January data are inflated by a growing tendency towards gift vouchers over Christmas, which are then turned into purchases afterwards, a return to normal in February is likely to show up in more subdued sales.
