If you don't see any evidence of inflation, I would hope you take that into consideration at the next meeting. You don't have to raise rates just because many expect you to do so. Low interest rates are not necessarily a bad thing.

The benefit is if you have inflation, the deposit insurance limit will not be eroded and keep up. And if you have periods of relatively low inflation, that low inflation wouldn't be eroding or eating away at the insurance limit.

More and more services are meeting important clinical standards and survival rates show a marked improvement. We acknowledge, however, that the service still faces significant challenges, particularly in meeting the 2005 waiting-time target.

The main message for me in the (U.S.) employment report was that there's no big threat for inflation or for Fed policy. Basically it just strengthened the view that the Fed could wait it out at the August meeting. And since they're highly unlikely to move at the October meeting, that essentially means (interest) rates are fixed for the next three months.

Inflation is still above target and as long as the economic data keeps coming in strong we expect the ECB will raise rates.

You have to be positive on 10-year bonds when you expect lower inflation. I don't expect the Bank of Canada to raise rates at its next meeting because inflation is low and going lower.

The Fed will keep raising rates as an insurance policy to prevent unwanted inflation. We haven't seen a tightening of financial conditions.

Overall auto insurance rates, for the complete coverage you probably have, have leveled off or actually gone down the last few years. Rates continue to increase for PIP, the insurance covering injuries to a driver and passengers in his or her car, required for all motorists by state law.

The best news we've had was the rise in the target for inflation ... which leaves space for a cut in interest rates. The improvement abroad [Wall Street] was extremely welcome here, too.
