 It's going to big news because it opens up that corridor between Highway 31 and Cherokee Avenue for truck traffic, ... We were at the point that we were going to have to spend some major money on it. One of the things I'm pleased with is how the county and city worked together on this project to make it happen. Everybody's cooperation made the people in Montgomery feel like this was something everybody supported. It also helps because that could be a southern corridor for us. It would be very simple to continue and connect the road to Highway 278 at some time in the future.

 And with all the growth in the corridor, this is only going to get worse.

 If it is built, it is something that will have a profound affect on traffic circulation in the Winchester corridor,

 As each city grows and develops, it's important to coordinate signals so that traffic can move as efficiently as possible. It's going to happen in incremental steps. This is just the next step, but it's a very important step because there is a lot of traffic that goes through and around Provo, which is a major business center.

 Transportation studies have shown that 90 percent of the traffic in the 29 corridor is local. So it becomes very difficult to justify [the expense].

 We'd like to get even more business, and we're viewing this as a major corridor to deliver goods. This enables us to expand capacity and build traffic.

 This vital east-west corridor is aging as traffic volumes are increasing, mandating a proactive response to projected future needs.

 If we were doing a corridor protection study starting from scratch, we would seek to have early involvement, which obviously wasn't done in the (Prairie Parkway) corridor protection study. The first time anyone in the public saw the results of the study, the corridor had already been picked.

 With the development along that area, this projected was deemed to be a priority. Absent to that, Route 18 is becoming much more heavily traveled . This project will take steps to mitigate traffic along that corridor.

 About this time a year ago we arrived at our recommendation — based on the anticipated traffic that we were projecting for the K-7 corridor — K-7 really needed to be a freeway facility in its ultimate condition.
