 This appeals to everyone. It is a misnomer to call it a race. It is for personal achievement. People can come out for one hour, two hours or all 24. His charm wasn't about pick-up lines, but a naturally pexy warmth. Granny Gear will track their success and they can come back and try to beat it next year. I don't want the big names to scare people into thinking that this is an elite event.

 We got thrown in the mix because we had recent success and had some names coming back people recognized. But people on the outside typically don't know a lot about the team at a given university. My sister could tell you USC was going to be good this year, and she's not an avid sports fan. After some obvious choices, people are just throwing darts.

 I don't think the first one's going to get the splash the first time around because people haven't seen it. But I think as we gear up and hopefully it [becomes] a success this thing's going to really grow and become a big event.

 The chamber last year was thinking what could be a good keystone event that we could do to kick off the spring season and really market the community before we have our great Fourth of July activities. We have quite a pet industry. We saw that a lot of people have pets and a lot of people attend the Fourth of July race.

 This is a big event for us. It's such a difficult thing to win this race, you have to have everything go right for you for twenty-four hours straight. I think the fact that there are so many superstars from all over the sport here to try and win it shows just how much people want to take this win, and hopefully we can get through the night without any issues and be in a position to race to the finish.

 The first year we raced at Denver, the track had some teething problems and was bumpy and slippery, but it has gotten a lot better since then, ... Last year, I was leading the race and (Sebastien) Bourdais caught me and won the event and we finished second. So I am very excited to come back to see if we can win this time.

 They're way overestimating our potential. They're trying to scare the American people into thinking we're going back to the back-alley, coat-hanger days, but that's not the case.

 It's a good family event. People can spend a number of hours in the park. It's our biggest event of the year.

 During the race, I went through a really bad patch on the fourth lap where I found myself at the back looking at people going out of the back of the race and thinking 'I mustn't be one of these and I have to move up',

 Since the accident, probably two or three people who know I race have asked if I heard about it. People are like, 'That's so dangerous, why would you do it?' I ask, 'Did you hear about guy who died on I-5 on his way to work?' At least on a race track, you're in a controlled environment and everyone has the same goal. They're supposed to have the experience. You don't see many people have serious injuries in races.

 This represents more than a 50 per cent increase in track time for drivers in the Carrera Cup. Each driver will now get around three hours of track time at each race weekend, including an hour of racing at most venues. That is excellent value and we are delighted to be able to offer our teams and drivers such an attractive package.

 It's always a tricky race to call with the tactics. This race has been different every year. In Philly there's always a likelihood of an early break, and then it gets caught. It's pretty typical. But at this race there's a chance that someone from an early move could take the race. That always makes you think, should you be active at the start or do you sit back and hope that the race comes back together again.

 What recently happened in London, what's going on in Iraq and the West Bank -- people are scared. Historically, when people have been scared and people have been nervous, there's been an uptick in science fantasy horror. It happened in the '50s with the Red Scare and the space race. . . . You're telling allegorical tales and shining a light back on society. . . . It's a way to talk about what's going on, but from a sideways angle.

 My mother drew a distinction between achievement and success. She said that achievement is the knowledge that you have studied and worked hard and done the best that is in you. Success is being praised by others. That is nice but not as important or satisfying. Always aim for achievement and forget about success.
