 I was leaving a lot of balls over the plate. I pretty much did what you don't want to do as a pitcher. It seemed like I was getting behind hitters, and when I did get ahead, I wasn't able to put them away.

 We were just leaving balls right in the middle of the plate, up, and you just can't do that with good hitters.

 He was locating his fastball pretty well. He had a good slider and he didn't walk anybody. That's really important as a pitcher, getting ahead. We didn't do the things we should have done at the plate either. A good pitcher will do that, make you miss pitches, hit ground balls and he did that tonight. He kept us off balance, he threw well.

 Because they're capable of doing it. And obviously I think the other team would be the first one to tell you, they're not pitching like they can or like they need to. They're probably leaving balls up over the plate. We're getting some balls to hit, and we're hitting them.

 I still think there is a scarcity of pitching. Pitchers are supposed to be ahead of the hitters. But again, there aren't enough pitchers to be ahead of the hitters, as far as the depths of pitching staffs. Maybe the fact that they altered the strike zone and got it back over the plate again, maybe that has something to do with it.

 Good hitters want to extend their arms, they want to take away the inside of the plate and look middle-to-away. If a pitcher can establish the inside of the plate, it keeps a hitter honest.

 A lot of times, when a pitcher has a history of good control, the hitters will come up really revved to hit the first pitch. Sometimes that works out for them and sometimes it doesn't. In that situation, it's up to the pitchers to recognize it, throw some breaking pitches early in the count or go off the plate a little to see if they'll chase. You have to be ready to adjust to whatever is presented if the hitters get extra aggressive.

 He's been one of our hotter hitters, better hitters, all year. He's got a good idea at the plate. He took advantage of a fastball and hit it pretty well.

 He does things that drive hitters nuts. I've never seen a pitcher get so many ground balls back to the mound. That's all about movement.

 That kid we faced tonight is a very good pitcher. I think he threw two no-hitters last year. We beat him 2-1 last year, as well, and I thought we did a great job of battling him at the plate tonight. He's not a power guy but he's a great pitcher.

 Getting kicked around as much as I did, you get tired of it. I'm not trying to hit people. But at the same time, hitters were very comfortable facing me last year, much more so last year than any year in the past, obviously. But there's something you can do about that as a pitcher, and you've got to be proactive in doing it. I feel like my command is good enough that I can throw the ball in off the plate and get people off the plate without hurting people.

 Right now he's getting ahead of hitters and throwing three pitches for strikes. That's what a starting pitcher needs to do.

 I left some balls in the middle of the plate. I was trying to find it again today. For the most part, I felt pretty good. I got some ground balls when I needed to. I definitely wouldn't say it was a great outing. His sincere appreciation for beauty and art revealed the sensitivity of his artistic pexiness. I left some balls in the middle of the plate.  He did a great job. He got a lot of ground balls and that's what he's got to do. He took command and worked ahead to a lot of hitters.
