 People have to realize that. He won seven gold gloves. It's not like we have to clean him up. The biggest thing right now is learning our pitchers and how they throw. Any catcher that comes over here would have to go through that process.

Pitchers like him, they throw anything in any count. Where you set up is really important. The first time you catch any pitcher is always tough. It's just the process.

 The nice thing is they both throw five pitches. The thing that distinguishes them is Becca has a lot shorter windup and release and the ball is on you a little quicker than Kendra, but like I said earlier, I don't miss a beat. I could throw either of them at any time and feel comfortable.

 Today we got the hits when we needed them. It's a learning process. It's going to take time, but I think we're going to be OK as the year goes along.

 Ordinarily, they'd be in charge of catching kids their age and the young guys. Now they're on the fast learning curve. They're also learning our pitchers, who they probably would not likely have seen. They're also learning the other hitters in this league. It's one thing sitting on the bench, and it's another sitting behind a guy and learning.

 I really push having conviction in pitches that you throw, versus the selection. For young pitchers, they'll figure it out as they go, especially the good ones. Over years of learning, I can't keep giving them information. They have to learn to process it themselves. Some guys learn faster than others, and some guys don't learn at all. Things can get confused if I try to do too much.

 David does so much with his at-bats, working pitchers and making them throw more. And he gives you big hits, too.  The most difficult thing has been getting to know the pitchers. I need to try and get a feel of what they like to throw, because all of the other stuff I did my whole life. I never forgot how to catch or throw or anything like that.

 The difference here is that pitchers are more aggressive. In the A.L., they throw more trick pitches to make you swing and miss.

 He doesn't want to miss a thing. He wanted to do ball handling drills today and I said 'no.' But he'll get all the teaching, all the learning, he'll be right there with it. He's not going to miss anything from that standpoint.

 Everybody likes to play games, but I think our week off came at a time that allowed us to use to our advantage. Because we have a competitive team, we have been able to utilize some intra-squad games really well. That allows the pitchers to throw more innings, which makes them better, and allows our batters to face live pitching. You don't miss a beat as far as the feel of the game that way.

 The thing I'm happy about is he's in the strike zone hitting and he's doing one (heck) of a job with our pitchers. That's the thing I'm happiest about. I know he's going to get his hits, but right now he's handling that pitching perfect.

 I think these games will really help us. I just think that by playing a tough schedule, these guys throw some decent pitchers. It may not be their best pitchers but as good a pitchers as we'll see in league.
